Looking for a future stallion for my lovely Verdi mare who jumped the 1.30 and now jumps the derbies. She is incredibly passionate, loves to work and win. She is drop dead gorgeous and will throw beautiful babies. Specifics- Her neck is a touch long and downhill and her mouth is a little fussy so nothing with either of those traits. My top contender currently is Bull Run’s Faustino de Tili, but I also love anything Chacco Blue. Any other recommendations? Must have successful babies on the ground already. Goal would be a talented, polite, well mannered/sweet horse for a pro to develop for an amateur or junior one day. Focus on quality and temperament.
Her breeding is as followed…
Sire- Verdi TN / Dam Sire- Ladalco / G. Dam Sire- Ladykiller XX
Will attach confirmation photo as well.
(fyi her neck is much longer when fully extended and she goes very down hill)
A conformation picture might probably be a little more helpful.
Great smile though.
Not sure what uploaded before but i think i fixed it!
Any preference for fresh or frozen or particular registries? If you use a performance registry like NAS you can pick from pretty much any WBFSH-member registry approved stallion you like and register the foal but if you’d like to stick with your mare’s registry you will need to keep that in mind in choosing your stallion.
Are you breeding for the hunters or jumpers? I’m guessing jumper based on the stallions you mentioned but since your mare is now doing the hunters I wanted to confirm.
Lovely looking mare!
Verdi often crossed very well on C-line mares and while it isn’t always the same to flip that cross, I’d certainly be considering some C-line stallions. I’d probably try and avoid adding much more Ladykiller close up. I would also recommend looking for a stallion with more flexibility.
How tall is she?
Depending whether you want a jumper or a hunter, I can throw out a few ideas to consider!
A lovely girl. Good luck with the search
I am open to both hunters and jumpers, but preferably nothing hot or bloody. She is 16.3, a big girl! Thank you for your help.
I don’t have a ton of experience with Faustino de Tili offspring but I agree with you that he is a good option. I know one of his offspring has jumped 1.60 and there is one doing the 6 year old jumpers successfully and it looks like there are a couple starting to do some baby hunter stuff. For a jumper, I think you’d want to cross him with a mare that had quite a lot of blood and wasn’t too heavy (similar to his sire, Berlin) but if you are looking for a potential hunter or one that can do the jumpers with an amateur he might still be a good choice, you might just get something that isn’t going to be the quickest or most competitive, in my opinion, and I wouldn’t expect him to improve the trot or canter. He would give you some of the C-line Holsteiner blood that seems to have suited Verdi very well.
Chacco-Blue isn’t where I’d go for amateur friendly, although they exist. He would also be ICSI only.
I looked at the test pedigrees of a few of my original thoughts for her and they result in more inbreeding than I’d like, so I’ve scratched those.
Fresh ideas:
Catch - I saw a lovely young hunter by him at a show a couple of weeks ago and I believe his older offspring are now jumping 1.30/1.35m in Europe.
Cumthago - successful in the hunters and jumpers with offspring that have been successful in both as well. This would give you two more crosses to Landgraf in the 5th generation, however.
It would be worth talking to Spy Coast too. I wonder if Diktator or Billy Mexico might be a good option for her and despite my generalization about Chacco-Blue, they do say that Chaqui Z has a great temperament and might be an option for you.
Frozen:
-
Chubakko (super rideability and temperament. Oldest offspring starting to jump 1.30m and Chubakko himself appears very amateur friendly if you watch his CMH videos)
-
Diacontinus
-
Jewel ASK (maybe not proven enough for what you’re looking for but I think he would be interesting with this mare)
Maybe Meganus PS? I’d also reach out to Team Nijhof and see if they have any suggestions. Keswick is their agent in the USA but the Keswick website looks out of date so might not reflect what is available to the US at the moment. Grandorado would be a good choice for a jumper focused cross but my perception of him is that, like Eldorado, they can start out a little bit looky about things outside the arena, even though they are brave to the jumps. They may have a better amateur focused suggestion for you. Their stallion show is coming up this Friday as well and should be on CMH so that might be worth watching!
