Stallion recommendations- dressage, amatuer friendly

Looking for a dressage stallion who must be amateur friendly (most important) and must pass on a good canter and strong back end my mare is a little wasp waisted.

Breed is unimportant as is height as I intend to keep the foal.

Suggestions welcome also which lines to stay away from.

Does Rubignon throw a good hip?

Look at Bugatti. He’s no longer at Hilltop but as of this March they were still selling some of his frozen semen. In his stallion test he got 9’s on character, temperament, rideability, & all three gaits.

I have a 2013 gelding by Bugatti and as well as being a lovely mover, he couldn’t be more amateur-friendly. I’m an experienced amateur (I showed my now-20-year-old up through Grand Prix doing the bulk of the riding myself, starting when the horse was 4 and with lessons from a great trainer along the way) but I have never started a horse completely from scratch before, until him. My Bugatti has been easy every step of the way. He’s also the boldest horse I’ve ever met–I had him two years before I saw him spook, and he will walk right up to/over objects most horses are afraid of.

Disclaimer: I’m no expert on breeding. Just wanted to pass on my experience, with sample size of 1. However, my trainer has said that all of Bugatti’s offspring that she has known are quite elastic and good-minded so I don’t think mine is an outlier.

Schroeder

consistently improves canter, temperament and hindquarter conformation.

You’ve received good suggestions so far, but what’s the mare’s pedigree? Do you want fresh or are you open to frozen?

Mare is KWPN (http://kwpn-na.org/stallion-directory/harness/zion-jc-licensed/) cross Arab and I’m open to frozen

Schroeder or Navarone. Both throw super ammy temperaments. Depends on what the mare needs improving on.

I really like Navarone, so it’s nice to see someone else mention him. He’s got as close to perfect conformation as a horse can have, I think.

She has a fabulous trot but canter needs improving as does her hind end

Devon Heir. My 3 year old mare is a total in your pocket sweetheart that has the most balanced canter and great disposition, out of a somewhat hot reactive dam. I love all the Devon Heir babies I’ve seen, that combo of D and R lines tends to produce a very amateur friendly horse. She’s not afraid of anything and learns quickly.

Great conformation and even better personality. Like seriously, stall him next to mares, geldings, whatever, he just wants to eat. And neither of those boys ever wear a chain.

JackSprats Mom I encourage you to check out Schroeder and Nav, they will both improve canter and hind end, Schroeder adds quite a bit of bone, Nav throws smaller and throws a topline to die for.

Based on peoples responses I’m leaning very heavily towards Schroeder.

Thank you all so much for you input!

if you do go with Schroeder, please show us the result… Schroeder has been one of my tops since I first saw him at NEDA in the late 2000s. I just love his way of going. He is so very fluid. I loved his canter back then and it has only gotten better. His offspring seem to inherit his wonderful gait.

If you are open to frozen and the mare is half arab - try to find Fabriano Semen. Maybe Anne Schmidt has some in storage. Should not be too expansive and he is for sure very Amateur friendly !

I’ll 2nd Olivier!

Boleem…has wonderful offspring. Sweet, people-lovers and super athletic. Frozen only…super duper conception rates. 100% conception rates in the last 6 years.

3rd Oliver

I can offer that I have several offspring out of same dam. Schroeder offspring, an awesome mover, awesome temperment, has been easy to work with and back. She won the RPSI chanpionship when she was presented a few years back. She is more fluid / more spring in her movement than her mom (mom is an awesome mover too). Bone is more refined than mom and baby has a giraffe neck. Great conformation. I also have a Navarone baby, she is tall, leggy, more bone, nice mover too but not as fluid as her 1/2 sister. Nice personality, easy to work with, not yet backed. And, I have a Farrington baby from same mom … he is a clown, personality plus, tall / leggy, nice mover too … he is still growing and will be 17H in the end. Has been easy to work with and back.
