Stallion suggestions available fresh for eventing foal

I don’t know if you need ammie type foal, so I’ll just throw out some fresh options:

Hunter, available fresh at UC Davis, Wendy Webster - sire of Rolex horse and number of 3***

Wonderboy St Ghyvan, full brother to Shannondale Sarco #25 world eventing sire 2016, check with Ronald Zabala Goetshel re: availability

Rose Sullivan has a couple eventing stallions in Oregon, BWPs, Claire de Lune offspring are winning.

and as always in these threads I do recommend Buddenbrock. Very very proven and also ammyfriendly…

For an outside of the box option for fresh please consider our young Connemara Stallion R Blue Moon. Blue placed 3rd in the West Coast FEH Championships 3yo Colts Division with outstanding scores and remarks. His first offspring are hitting the mark with respect to size, type and movement. And you simply cant underestimate the brains, rideability and fifth leg of an Irish Pony.

I have a 6yo Formula One out of my TB mare, improved size, bone, movement. She has a little spook but mom had a BIG spook so… It is not an Ammy-friendly spook but I really don’t think it came from F1. She has however been super easy to break and is very trainable and eager to please. I like her even better than her full TB sister who took me Intermediate.

2 yo from same mare, by Royal Appearance. No spook whatsoever, wipe up the drool fancy mover, very bold and inquisitive and smart. Not to mention jumped out of her pasture in multiple places just for fun. Really can’t wait to ride her!

Mare is bred to Tatendrang for next year, I have seen a lot of his kids and they are fab.

I bred my Old x TB mare to Tatendrang for an eventing baby and am looking forward to seeing that cross in the spring–his owner and manager are both excellent, and I did get to meet him in person, he was a complete gentleman! I haven’t seen a baby of his I haven’t liked. Am planning on keeping if I get a filly from this cross.

I bred my TB mare to Ehrentanz KD for our 2016 colt and am very pleased. His attitude is fantastic, as are his gaits, and conformation. No complaints there. His manager is also excellent, and has been really helpful sharing his ad. I plan to breed the same mare back to him, and will plan on keeping if I get a filly from this cross too!

Good luck!

I have a 2016 Ehrentanz filly as well. I’ve jumped/ridden him myself since I used to work at KD. He really stamps his foals.

If there’s a full brother in to Sarco about you couldn’t go wrong there and he crosses well you with TB mares and the blood types.

Terri

That should be “crosses very well” with TB mares

I have a Halimey filly who is almost 17 months old. We were able to get fresh cooled in 2014 when my mare was bred.

I would do frozen semen from him in a heartbeat!

I know that breeding can be a crap shoot, but he passed on some amazing genes. This filly is uphill (the mare was slightly downhill), she is athletic and has quite a spring to her gaits.

She is smart and easy to work with. If I could afford more horses I would breed to him again!

I understand no fresh for Halimey either. For Formula One…I’d only go to him if you can send you mare to them. His semen in the past did not travel well but perhaps that has been solved.

I’m crossing one of my TB mares that does better with Fresh to Tatendrang. I like him but he is a big boy which is why I haven’t used him before (I have mostly big mares). The TB I’m crossing him with is smaller (15.3) so would be happy if he added to her length of leg (which it looks like he does).

Buddenbrock would be another. He is in Fl a believe and has produced UL horses. I like him crossed on TBs for eventing. He is getting up there in age and so would be good to use soon.

I crossed a nice TB to GK Calucci. Got a LOVELY filly but unfortunately lost her to a pasture injury very early on. He stands at Hilltop Farm and they are fantastic to deal with. He had a good canter and should improve the jump.

I’ve know a couple by Royal Apperance and he is nice too. I bred to him mare aborted (at 332 days) with that mating and just didn’t have the heart to go back. (Sorry two sad stories here…but that is breeding).

If your friends are new to breeding…it is critically important that they work with good and reputable stallion managers as much as picking the right stallion. So make sure you do your research on that matter as well as on the stallion.

My mare by Royal Appearance is not upper level proven but she’s done every thing she’s been asked very well. Also, willing, bold, intelligent, inquisitive,
and a look-alike to her father who has also sired Advanced eventer(s?),
i.e. Royal Raconteur ridden by Clark Montgomery. She’s like a 4x4 and goes everywhere and no spook. If she’s good for me, she’s good for anyone.

I also always liked Concerto Grosso. I haven’t used him because of my larger mares (who throw large) but thought he would be a good cross on TBs.

Olympian Ronald Zabala Goetschel stands Wonderboy St. Ghyvan who is full brother to Shannondale Sarco, ranked #25 world eventing sire WBFSH.

Plenty of Wonderboy offspring in the ring and on the field to assess this stallion.
Available fresh, stands in PA, last I heard.
