Stallion suggestions...when I don't know what I want!

Hi everyone -

I have a mare that I am considering breeding. I owned this mare’s dam and bred this mare for myself so this would be the next one that I breed for me.

The mare is registered half-trakhener by fleetwater opposition. Her dam was a granddaughter of Caro and Babamist. The mare was bred to event! However, I’m a bit older now and while I’d maybe like to consider going training or modified in the future, we’ve really been focusing on dressage.

The mare competed at 3rd level and schooled some PSG (before my son’s sports took over my life!). She has a phenomenal work ethic, forward thinking, amazing feet, and is a good jumper (8’s during young event horse trials) and a good mover for the most part. She is steady and rhythmic. However, she is a little upright behind, could use a more active hind leg, and she can be spooky. She is ~60% tb, but she could also use some length of leg and refinement.

What I am looking for are ideas for a stallion (frozen or fresh) that:

  1. is versatile - I would like a foal that could do a bit of dressage and/or be a lower level event horse

  2. exceptional canter or known for throwing exceptional centers

  3. exceptional temperament

  4. uphill and refining, but not full TB

Bonus) black or chestnut

There are lots of stallions that will fit this list. If it’s going to be your own horse, I might go the sentimental route. Do you know a stallion in real life that you love or one you see regularly online that you oooh and ahh over?

If you want to stick with the Trakehener side, you may wanna bid on him in this years ATA Auction

Check out Finnick TGS (Ferro/Oskar II/Kovington). He’s a 17h black stallion with a substantial amount of TK in his pedigree and a fantastic canter through Ferro. He and his junior rider are in daily training with Robert Dover and are on track for PSG. While he is focused on dressage, there is plenty of jump in his pedigree. He is lifetime licensed GOV and SBS and can produce foals for multiple other registries. Better still, his owner has just offered a Valentine’s Day special on a LFG contract. Foals are quite lovely and talented with great temperaments.
