So awful! What the heck is going on!
People fail to realize how fortunate we are in North America and how scary some places in the world truly are.
Libya, like most of that region (even though it is in Africa) is extremely dangerous. This is where the Benghazi attacks occurred as well. There has been unrest in that area for many years now and it has been a prime breeding ground for ISIS. Libya has been a country labelled a danger to travel to for years now. Kidnapping and terrorism based kidnapping is likely. If you are an American travelling to Libya, you are potentially a dead person-walking.
South American breeding establishments are in countries with often corrupt governments, drug lords, lots of shady business ruled by gang-like behavior. Those who can afford to own pricey horses and farms are targets and even potentially financially invested in shady business dealings which put them at further risk.
Its sad, really, for the animals involved because those committing these atrocities could care less about human life or animal life and/or their care. The horses were stolen, I guarantee a ransom will be demanded, and if its not paid the horses will be disposed of as a form of retaliation.
The remaining 30 horses have been stolen by armed militias from Tarhuna 
No word from the kidnappers and whereabouts of the stolen horses are unknown.
Terrible. My heart aches for them.
