Stallions - Uphill & Good Gaits

What jumping or eventing stallions are proponent to produce get with very uphill builds and quality gaits?

118 views and not one single answer? Did I phrase my question poorly?

I haven’t pursued those disciplines, but have used a stallion that certainly has an excellent jumping pedigree and jumps beautifully and also does dressage. Both babies - I had one, a client had the other o/o a mare I bred - from Coromino were very modern, sensible, easy to handle and train, uphill and 3 lovely gaits. It’s often hard to discern the movement of the jumper/event stallions since most of their videos are jumping. It would really be helpful to have some footage available that shows all 3 gaits. Hope that is helpful for you.

I think your question is fair enough but sufficiently vague enough that people aren’t sure how to respond? :). Do you have a preference on breed/registry? What bloodlines are your mare (so no one recommends her brother or something  ).

I can think of a few stallions that are uphill and therow decent movement and are eventing, my own boy included, but there are other factors to consider. For example, Tate will throw his uphill build, excellent Topline, and will improve the freedom in the shoulder amongst other things. BUT he is adding length if leg as well so if you don’t want a tall boy he’s not for you. And if the mare has a strong hind end he will strengthen that and the movement is amazing but if that is her weaker area and her shoulder freedom is excellent that may not be what you’re looking for. (He’s good but no stallion fixes everything. :). His babies are very good movement and he improves on the mare but he is stronger through the front). Make sense?

So all that being said - if you really want a list of stallions that would truly suit your mare and what you want to breed for we need more info. :). Oh and things like frozen or fresh only are also going to play into it.

I agree,
. What is the mare like - do you want more height, less height, shorter, longer topline? Is she mostly TB, so could use a heavier type stallion, or more WB and need a lighter type? Fresh, frozen, proven?

You should consider Holsteiner stallion Lotus T. From what you described, he produces exactly what you are looking for - he is a very prepotent jumper stallion with absolutely superb gaits.

Just about any approved WB stallion is going to be built uphill and have good gaits. Those are basics. If you go to other breeds, then you need to look at plenty of their foals to determine this.

Also, if you are interested in eventing, pick stallions who consistently win the dressage portion – you can bet they are built uphill & have good gaits.

For more info from breeders on this board, be more specific about what your mare lacks, registry preferences etc. Frozen semen? Chilled shipped?

There are thousands of stallions out there…

There isn’t a stallion in the world that will consistently produce “very uphill builds and quality gaits” regardless of the mare he’s bred to. So my advice is to be very critical with your mare’s conformation and gaits and then decide which stallion will complement her. Do not look for miracles that all need to come from the stallion’s side.
