Stand out Olympians or who should carry the flag in the closing ceremonies?

So title says it all pretty much. Who from your country has had a brilliant Olympic performances and there for should carry your country’s flag into the closing ceremonies?

Name/sport/country/ why

Go!

P.

Penny O. Canada. Swimming. 4 or 5 medals. Of each colour!! 16 year old!!

I’d like to see Nick Skelton carry the flag for Great Britain, although I’m not sure he’s sound enough!

But he’s certainly an example for the rest of us in perseverance, as well as the idea that age is just a number.

Katie Ledecky. Swimming. US.

Because she helped her team medal in two relays as well as winning in individual races.
And I think it would be nice to let it be a woman since a man carried the flag in the Opening Ceremonies.

And that’s because OP asked for candidates who had brilliant performances.
Otherwise I would have picked a US athlete who may or may not have medaled but who overcame formidable obstacles to even get to the Olympics, with or without realistic expectations of winning. Michael Phelps for overcoming his darknesses (his term) and choosing to survive and come back and be there. Cody Miller for overcoming what could have been a birth defect, also for just having such a blast at the Games and posting about what fun he was having for all to see. Ryan Held for being picked by the coach to swim in one relay and helping his team win gold. Someone whose name I don’t know, whose event I didn’t see, who won just by being there and competing, who would remain invisible except for carrying the flag in the Closing Ceremony.

^ I think I saw in the news that Simone Biles is going to carry the flag.

Cool. She deserves that honor. :encouragement:

I wanted to see Abbey D’Agostino from Topsfield, Massachusetts carry the flag. She is the runner who stopped to help up and encourage a fellow competitor after they crashed and fell. But then I realized that she would have to do it from a wheelchair if she wasn’t already gone and in surgery. She tore her ACL in the accident, but what Olympic spirit right there!

Simone Biles will carry the U.S. flag at the closing ceremonies. A very worthy choice, in my opinion. A wonderful athlete, a truly amazing person, and someone who truly came in the spirit of competition.

and Penny will carry the flag for Canada!! Excellent choice!

I figured Canada would be between Penny and Andre de grasse and not surprised that Penny was chosen since it has been all women who have kicked butt these games.

Evan Dunfee was up there in choice as well. Which I love since I do know him.

Who’s carrying the flag of Great Britain?

P.

Great Britain’s flag bearer is:

Kate Richardson-Walsh Hockey Gold Medalist. Her story is incredible in fighting back and competing in more than one Olympics, and through injuries too.

Ryan Lochte. Because he will get arrested and that would be an interesting twist on the closing ceremonies. Never seen that before.

For Germany - someone from their canoe team in honor of their coach who was killed in a car accident in Rio. His family donated his organs that subsequently saved the lives of 4 people. He was a former Olympian and medal winner.

I enjoyed seeing Penny and Simone. Also enjoyed seeing all the US athletes I had never seen before. Glad they were there.

The Tokyo film was brilliant! Wonder if the real world will ever have Gravitubes?
