Standlee Hay from Tractor Supply?

Has anyone tried this hay? Looking for a source that would be reliably consistant. If you have, could you tell me if it’s true to weight? I was thinking of using it a flake or two at night in the winter.

Not sure on the true to weight part, but assuming you’re talking about their compressed mini-bales, I have used it. It’s pretty decent stuff, there’s a ton of dust/shatter though. I’d suggest wetting it down just a little before feeding it. It’s very dense, so one flake is really solid and comes off as a perfect little slice versus the normal bale’s flake kinda loosely falling apart.

Are those the small compressed bales of Alfalfa? I’ve tried them on a few occasions, I find that the leaves etc with the exception of a few stems are ground up so small that it’s like dust. My horses can eat thru a flake in a matter of minutes. I’m not crazy about it but it works if that’s all you can get. Kind of expensive though, think ours are around $18, when a large 2 twine bale of alfalfa is about the same and lasts a lot longer and takes the horses longer to eat at a meal.

Expensive, but consistent quality and weight. Plastic wrapped, so it keeps longer. I always keep a few bales around for emergencies. My horses love the stuff and eat every bit of it.

I’ve been using it for two years to supplement boarding stable hay. Horsie loves it, it is convenient, and IIRC, is guaranteed blister beetle free.

I haven’t used the compressed bales but have used their 3 string bales. They’re the same price and are just like the small bales. Lots of small pieces. You didn’t have to look in the stalls to see if they have been fed, just follow the trail. IMO it’s overpriced and there’s better hay for less.

My guys love it, and I buy them in a pinch.

I think it has to be true to weight by law because they are selling it as a packaged product. Haven’t bought any myself because of the price but Standlee has always delivered a consistent product no matter what I bought from them, shreds, cubes, pellets. I’ve contemplated buying it for your purposes but am using the cubes, soaked.
