They already start on Tuesday so that would be a Monday to Sunday show.
I did not say it was a good idea. Just a way to fit another whole division in.
The eventing version of a hunter show, all week.
From the Chronicle article;
“To qualify for the AEC at starter, the horse and rider must complete three USEA recognized horse trials and must earn first or second at least once. This does not have to be done as a combination. In order to enter the junior championship, the rider may not have competed at novice or higher in the last five years.”
I’m sure I’m being thick, but I don’t understand the reasoning behind the 5 year prohibition. As a Junior rider you (G) can be at most, 18 yrs old, which would make the 5 year rule not apply if you rode novice or higher as a 12 year old (or younger?)
Why not just limit the junior championship to junior riders who haven’t ridden novice or higher?
I guess if they did it wouldn’t be any more chaotic than a 6 day show.
I imagine it’s just for consistency-- I believe the rule is can’t have ridden at Training in the last 5 years for the BN Champs etc.
Oh. Thanks, that must be it.
It doesn’t make much sense for the juniors though, does it?
Ehh, anecdotally what happens to a number of kids is that you have a nice pony or hand-me-down packer type that you do Novice or even Training on when you’re 11-13 and then you outgrow it and end up with something green and /or off the track that your parents optimistically think you’ll easily move up through the levels on and it actually takes you years and years to get back to Novice. So I think there probably aren’t a ton of kids with a five year gap but if there are it’s probably not the end of the world. And I’m sure if it gets hugely popular it will be split by age like BN is eventually too.
I’m sure you’re right. I don’t know much about the finer points of Eventing, being an enthusiast and not a participant.
I was lucky enough at one point in my life to have a cross country course next door to play on, and it was great fun.
Thank you for the explanation.
I am sure it is tied to the definition of “Rider” sections in general.
