Stirrup Iron recommendations!

I’m riding in a County Monoflap for the jumping and XC phases of eventing, and my jointed stirrup irons are no longer cutting it. I’ve noticed that my foot is going numb, particularly on the left (my right is actually my dominant and worst side). Ive tried the comfort foot pad stirrup wraps, and thats actaully making it worse, and a more unstable feeling. I have a feeling that I need to change to a different stirrup style all together.

Does anyone with similar experience of foot numbness, who also has poor ankle flexibility, have a particular model or brand to suggest that eliminated the numbness? and didn’t create any extra pain in the ankle or knee?

I find I like the solid feeling of the irons versus the Equiwing/carbon/plastic style stirrups. I need something with a good foot support/stability for jumping and galloping. MDC? Jin? Lorenzini? I don’t want to just follow “trends” since these are expensive ones and I cant afford trial and error!

TIA

Have you tried putting the comfort pads on a traditional fillis iron? That’s what I ride in for everything but dressage and I’ve found it more stable and comfortable than the Bow Balance or System 4 HS or my old HS-knock offs bendy stirrups. .

I’m big fan of FreeJump. They are plastic but not light. Very sticky, wide and comfortable. Also, safe.

In my dressage saddle I have a pair of Royal Riders, they do not flex, the foot bed is wide and grippy. I absolutely love them.

With saying that, I also have a pair of Jins on my jump saddle. They are also wide, angled foot bed and grippy. Love them as well.

I have awful knees from figure skating. Since switching to these stirrups, I’ve not had any issues!

Lorenzini are the best! They’re expensive though but the most comfortable irons I’ve ever tried. My foot was totally secure and had no knee issues at all. I’m saving my pennies for a pair.

I love my Lorenzinis. They feel very stable and the wider footbed is more comfortable for me.

I ride with Tech Stirrups, the Athena model. I really like them. Wide foot bed & grippy.

Love my Free Jumps. Never liked stirrups as much as this.

Thanks everyone! I ordered a pair of Lorenzinis to try, and got a great deal direct from Italy. I ride in traditional irons in my dressage saddle and have no issue, ts just my jump saddle when i hike my stirrups up for XC of jumping that I have the most issue with my knees and ankles, and lately my foot going numb. Fingers crossed the Lorenzinis help!

I’ve had issues with foot and leg numbness. I jump in the Royal Riders without flex. A lot of what helped me too was to practice a lot of half seat on the flat and during fitness sets, really focusing on not jamming my heel/locking my ankle. Numbness is often indicative of weakness.

I have knee and ankle pain in jointed stirrups. I switched to regular irons with the Ian Millar grips, and the pain is lessened. I have ridden a few times in Jin knock offs, and they helped even more. I’m eagerly awaiting my order! Definitely recommend something with a wide foot bed.

I had bad ankle pain (especially on the left) with regular jointed stirrups. I got a pair of aluminum Equiwing wide tread stirrups, and those helped a LOT. It keeps you from over cranking your ankles/heels down (which was my tendency) and they’re nice and light. They’re really affordable too, about $70 which isn’t too bad.

They come with rubber pads and cheese grater pads you can change out.

I always struggled with my feet going numb while jump schooling in my metal peacock stirrups. I switched to composite-reflex- stirrups and haven’t had my feet go numb. They are $45 at Dover and they are plastic but my feet feel extremely supported. They have springs in the pads which help my knees as well. They’re light weight so I don’t loose them either. I’ve put them on my dressage saddle because of how secure I feel in them. I never have to worry about loosing my stirrup. Highly recommend them!
