Stirrup leather recommendations

I can’t get the stupid search thing to work on my phone, so I’m sorry for making another thread about this but maybe something new has come out. I bought a pair of cheap-ish leathers, and they stretched like crazy. We are talking a few months of light use, forgetting to swap them to the opposite sides but they are already two or three holes size difference. I mean I know I ride with more weight on one side but that was just a bit ridiculous.

Does anyone have any leathers they love that don’t stretch so much? I don’t want to break the bank but I’m willing to pay a bit more for good quality, I had just grabbed these at a local tack store because I needed some right away.

I have had both Prestige and CWD. They are both very sturdy and are built to last. Can be a bit pricey, but are definitely worth it! Good luck in your search!

What you want to look for are leathers with a nylon center. These are covered in leather and will not stretch at all. Something like these:

You can find Gary Mundy on FaceBook, and he makes lovely custom leathers for the same or cheaper than off-the-rack. I have two pairs of the doubled stitched leathers and have not experienced any stretching. I think I paid around $65 a pair for mine with the exact length and hole pattern I wanted, and choice of stamp at the end.

Kent and Masters stirrup leathers. Nylon lined and cost 75. A lot if my clients buy them.

I bought custom leathers from Gary 12 years ago, and they are the best leathers I’ve ever purchased. He does put a nylon layer in the middle and they don’t stretch. I like them even better than my Stübben leathers, and I loved those.

Other posters are correct that you will want to look for something nylon-lined in order to prevent stretching. I am a huge fan of Gary Mundy leathers, but if you’re looking for something very inexpensive, these are nylon lined and feel like much more expensive leathers. He does offer a nylon core option, but mine are just double stitched leather, which was a good compromise for a dressage leather without too much bulk. For jumping, I would def. go with the nylon core.

I love my Bates webbers, and have had one pair in use since 2013 which is holding up very well. My others are newer, but of course still also in good shape

I bought Gary Mundy leathers this spring that sound like the ones @outerbanks77 has - double stitched leather with half holes. They are really not going to stretch much if at all and are very nice. They are a bit stiff and the extra tail doesn’t lay totally flat at the stirrup bar right away, but I also didn’t oil them much yet.

The price was great, especially when I was looking at prices to replace my Passier flat leathers with half holes.

He has lots of options for nylon core, webbers type, etc.

And the Stübben monoleathers. Not cheap, but are absolutely beautiful, butter soft leather and wear like iron. I have had mine for four years. They look like new and have ZERO difference in length.

I’ve been thinking about trying the Total Saddle Fit stability stirrup leathers. They get some good feedback (and media coverage!) on the Dressage Radio Show podcast so I was thinking of giving them a try… although I don’t think the dressage (“slim”) style will work for me because they don’t come short enough (I’m only 5’1"). Does anyone have any experience with them?

They get some good feedback (and media coverage!) on the Dressage Radio Show podcast so I was thinking of giving them a try… although I don’t think the dressage (“slim”) style will work for me because they don’t come short enough (I’m only 5’1"). Does anyone have any experience with them?

I LOOOVE mine! Much less bulk under my leg, andmy leg feels more stable.

I ended up ordering these to try, I’ve been curious about stability leathers anyways and refuse to get them from Millbrook. I love the girth I got from them so why not. If they suck, I’ll look into Gary Mundy ones!

I’ve had the passier leather wrapped nylons ones for years and they’ve held up great without stretching or too much wear at the buckle site. I also have some Gary Mundy ones for my close contact which are nice and it’s fun that he can stamp your initials on the end, but mine just sit in my closet with my CC saddle at this point so I can’t attest to long term wear and tear.
