Smartpak has done something terrible…they have changed their incredibly priced, wonderful lined stirrup leathers from a normal 1" width to a children’s width of 3/4". Now, I LOVE these leathers and they hold up incredibly well to hunting, I am just purchasing more of them for additional saddles. Does anyone have recommendations as to what they use that isn’t super bulky and doesn’t stretch and that I can really count on in the hunt field? I have used the lined ones from Bartville in the past and have found them to be a bit too bulky. Thanks!
Gary Mundy (custom made leathers - super to deal with)
Yes, seconding Gary Mundy, you won’t beat his craftsmanship or his prices.
I use the HDR lined stirrup leathers. They seem stiff at first, but take conditioning well. My first pair lasted8 years. They are still “useable” but the stitching that holds the leather to the nylon has been rubbed through due to HOURS in the saddle.
I had purchased another brand of lined leathers and had the darndest time trying to get them on the saddle and then adjusting them mounted was near impossible.
I have purchased a set of HDR leathers for each of my saddles and have moved the other brand to neck strap duty.
