Stirrup leathers?

The time has come to replace my Beval lined leathers. They’ve held up wonderfully, and must be close to a decade old, but they’re getting really ratty and worn out at the frequently used holes.

Is there something newer and better to replace them with? I prefer lined leathers, and would probably go back to the Prestiges I had previously. But it’s been a long time since I’ve bought any, and wondered what else is out there. I’ve got a fairly solid leg, so don’t really feel the need for the trendy wide leathers. Bonus points if I can get it through Dover, since it would be nice to give some business to my local store.

I tried several things and went back to the Prestige leathers. They are not as thick as the Bevals and are still good quality. I tried the Schockemohle Chantilly leathers and they were beautiful, but they ended up actually being slightly too soft and didn’t hold their shape as well as the Prestige ones. But they were the flattest, softest ones I found.

I always rave about my CWD lined leathers, they wore like iron and had all the features that were important to me: half holes, narrow (3/4" wide), easily adjustable from the saddle, buttery soft leather. I bought them under duress when the CWD sales rep convinced me I should get them to match the new saddle I had just ordered and it was one of my best purchases ever. Now I wouldn’t buy anything else, despite their high cost.

I forgot to mention, their best quality, IMO, is that they never stretched at all! I know that seems hard to believe, maybe because I don’t jump big fences? I loved never having to adjust them like my old fashioned leathers that just kept stretching no matter how many years I rode in them.

I always come back to the lined Beval Flat Buckle stirrup leathers. I’ve had many others over the years, but those are always my favorites.

(I can’t get the quote function to work.) Like PNWjumper I always went with the Beval Flat Buckle. But in recent years, I felt that the quality wasn’t the same and they would wear too quickly, so I switched to Prestige. So far I feel the quality of these is similar to when I first starting getting the Bevals, so I’m happy.

The Beval flat-buckle ones are the ones I’ve got now, and I think the Prestiges were a bit thinner. It’s been so long, I forget exactly why I remember liking them a bit better!

But from browsing around the internet while COTH was down and I had no crowdsourced reviews  it looks like there’s been a run on stirrup leathers? Like normal sizes of good brown leathers are very sold out. So I sort of impulse purchased a pair of Huntley’s since they had them in stock and would be here by this weekend. I’ll see how they do for me–if I hate them, it’ll be back to trying to track down the Prestiges.

Mine aren’t anything fancy, but I’ve had them for over 6 years and they’ve held up great. They’re Ovation lined leathers, but I haven’t been able to find the exact type for a long time now, so I’m not sure if the ones available are similar. Mine have fancy stitched detailing at the tips and are not calfskin.

I found the Beval leathers too thick for my taste but I’m interested in finding out how you like the Huntley leathers.

I’ll report back once I get them! Hopefully I’ll have them to ride in Sunday.

Thanks.

I just got the Total Saddle Fit stability leathers and really like them

Thanks for posting, they look beautiful on your saddle. I have heard good things about their bridles but have never seen any of their stuff. Enjoy!
