Stirrups with wide footbeds: worth it?

I trail ride in a comfortable dressage saddle. I was wondering if upgrading to stirrups with wider footbeds, meaning longer from to back, maybe deeper is the right word, would have any advantage for stability or comfort?

My current normal stirrups have been fine. I am however currently grounded because a horse stepped on my foot. I am wondering if deeper stirrups might help if I have lingering pain after I am recovered?

Or would I still really be just putting my weight on the ball of my foot while posting?

If wider stirrups would be good for rehab what sort? My musings here were set off by seeing an add for Jinn aluminum stirrups. If they would fix a pain problem $300 Canadian would be a cheap price to pay, but since I don’t know that they would, maybe a cheaper option would be good to try!

I bought these 18 months ago and like them very much:

No knee stress at all (even with new leathers). Pretty easy to pick up a stirrup if lost. All in all worth the money.

Since I ride a gaited horse I can’t directly answer your question on posting. But it seems reasonable that a broader footbed would be an asset to stability. You would still have the option to alter foot position on the bed if you wanted to with maybe more “choice.”

Bit o Britain, where I bought them, offered a “rental” option where you could try them for a fee ($25 IIRC) and if you liked them the fee would be applied to the purchase price.

So far they’ve worked for me!!!

If you ride for more than a couple hours you will want a stirrup with more surface area for your feet. Avoid the fancy aluminum ones and go for plastic ones. Mine are from Easy Care and work great.

I would never go back to riding in normal width stirrups. We have used the nylon (aka plastic) E-Z Rides for years with great success.

Yes.

Also stirrup cushions from Cashel are a big help.

Ok I think I will look into these for trail riding even if my foot heals up fast!
