Does anyone know of some good hj barns in the STL area, preferably close to Wash U, while I’m looking into their EQ team, I’d like to find as many options to ride as possible. I’m not able to bring a horse, but might be willing to look into leasing something if no where has extra horses for me. I’m used to lessoning at 3’, so I know that it’d probably be hard to find a barn with lesson horses that would do that. I’m coming from a AA circuit bigger barn and showing in the children’s hunters. Just doing some research to know if applying ED to Wash U is an option.
You could contact Jodi from CANTER IL, she’s in STL and would be a good one to ask.

Well, this is no help as the web site changed and the trainer page is not there. But look at the Calendar and look at Irish Fox Stables and Dublin Farms to start.
I live 4 blocks from Wash U. There is nothing “close” per say. You are going to be driving a minimum of 20 minutes up to an hour depending on traffic, time of day, weather etc. I believe the Wash U equestrian team rides out of Baskin, but that may have changed. There is also Kennedy Farms and KEE - all three of these are in the Chesterfield Valley. Pegasus Stables is in Town & Country, that is going to be your closest option. I don’t know what they have as far as lesson/lease horses. Further out is Griffin, where I ride/board. On a good day, I am out in 35 minutes door to door. I am sure Dublin is nice, but I don’t ever see them at any of the AA shows here. Irish Fox is about, roughly, the same distance as Griffin. All of the above, with the exception of Dublin, are at the local AA shows on a consistent basis. PM me if you would like. I’ve lived in the Wash U neighborhood for 20 years.
Not sure how close it is, but I know a couple of people that ride/have ridden at Baskin Farm and like it.
Baskin and Griffin both have great reputations. I lived out there for two years. As others have said, there is nothing close to the university.
Personally I’d consider 20 minutes from campus as close! Good to know that there are some options. I do know the trainer out at KEE farm, and see her a lot at shows, I could probably work something out there. Hopefully I could do the equestrian team and find time to also take additional lessons, but as most horse people my age, I can’t imagine quitting cold turkey.
I’ve heard great things about KEE, too. A friend of mine takes occasional lessons there with Katana and has previously boarded there. Same friend is going back to school this fall and may be willing to lease out a lovely grey TB with lots of fox hunting mileage and showing great potential for hunters. I think Katana knows the horse… Not certain though. PM me if you want details.
Yeah, what everyone else said — nothing close to the Wash U area. I used to be able to board half an hour away, but over the years, it always gets farther and farther away as the close-up farm property gets sold. Half an hour minimum, depending on traffic (which can be a nightmare in that area).
My daughter had the privileged of riding with Micaela Kennedy of Kennedy Farms in Chesterfield, MO. Was an absolutely great experience for her. Can’t say enough nice things about Micaela and her staff. Well worth a check out. www.kennedyfarms.com/
Susan Baginski at Baskin Farms is wonderful, and the facility is amazing. They have a heated indoor! One of my horses is leased to someone in her barn, and when I dropped off the horse, I wanted to stay. They do have a lesson program, as I saw some people taking lessons while I was there. It seems like a great place to ride.
Most of the barns mentioned so far are in the 20-30 minute commute time (depending on traffic, of course). Another option would be East Lake Farm, which is just across the river in Illinois.

(PS. Heated indoor? We have a heated barn .)
