Stock tie for dressage at AECs? *UPDATED info

Interesting, I’ve recently been going no StockTie at prelim, I love the look of a dark show-shirt, white collar under jacket in both dressage and show-jumping. ( like this- https://www.horsepilot.com/en-us/products/aerolight-shirt-women-alils122?variant=3598&size=6687 )This started after I forgot to put one on, and a TD told me I didnt have to wear one.

Now that I’m looking at the actual rules, I guess this is considered a choker? What is a choker?

In horse show attire, a choker is pretty much just a stand-up collar like the one pictured in your link. A decade or two ago there would be a separate piece of fabric that wrapped around the collar but these days a wrap collar or straight zip one is generally accepted to meet the attire requirements.

This article, which is actually for Dressage, has pictures illustrating what is, and isn’t a choker.

On pg 36, number 2 is a choker.

I say wear the stock tie but make it unique and special. A friend gave me an old school periodic table one.

As a fellow scientist, this would almost inspire me to wear one. What a great stock tie! I’d like one with double helixes!

I’m even more confused now.

I had thought that the stand-up or wrap collar counted as neckwear (worn with jacket).
And that if you opened it up, it would no longer be neckwear (worn without jacket).

The response from USEF seems to indicate that such a shirt is neckwear through modified. Is it not also neckwear at prelim then? (I’ve worn it, but maybe the judge just didn’t notice . . . )

Slide 39 of Janet’s .ppt says you don’t need to open the collar without a coat on. So the closed wrap/upright collar is not in and of itself neckwear then?

The separate choker/tie is much less convenient to remember/put on, but easier to understand (on/off).

The link I provided was JUST to illustrate “what is a choker”. The article itself is about STRAIGHT DRESSAGE attire, not Eventing Dressage attire. The text on pg 39 is only relevant to straight dressage, not to Eventing dressage, so no need to be confused.

OK, thank you!

So for eventing, would opening the collar mean no neckwear?

Are the wrap/stand-up collars neckwear at P as well as M level?

Yes
