Stomatitis and the Dumped Kitty - Nic graduates 2/10

I’m about as grinchy as they come but so checked the fundraising page and you ladies made me outright cry. $725 so far?! Nic is a really lucky guy! I can vouch wholeheartedly for extraction and quality of life after. My old man had it done at the age of 13, eventually recovered very well and lived 5 1/2 more years I wouldn’t trade a thing for. Eating was never a problem - he weighed 18-20 lbs to the end.

My favorite thing is the lack of teeth to hold the tongue in when he would get distracted mid-grooming  I secretly hope Nic gets the adorable floppy tongue too.

Gave a bit today, on my first visit to this thread. Best wishes for the gray boy to find his forever home.

Sent a bit. Can contribute more if needed,

Good luck on Jan 13. That was my mon’s birthday and I’m pretty sure her grandmother, who was the resident crazy animal lady, is responsible for my animal gene.

How is Nic? Thinking of him in this horrendous weather.

Sorry I’ve been lagging on updates - I’ve been dealing with COVID since the weekend :mask:

Nic and crew are doing well - the rain didn’t hit too hard here. I kept the heating pad out all day and he and his buddies have stayed dry on the stoop. This pic is from this morning:

Thank you for that update. Those poor kittiies. Sending you a PM.

Glow -up has officially started! After a dose a capstar for fleas, I decided to take my life into my own hands and give this street kitty a bath. While he didn’t love it, he behaved wonderfully.

He let me clip his claws and flea comb him while he dried. He currently adjusting and slowly taking in his new surroundings. He did make some biscuits for his crew of supporters.

What a sweet boy!!! :two_hearts:

He’s happy! He loves to be loved.

and look at that filthy water! That poor kitty.

I would snatch him up in a minute but my older kitties would lose it and Baler the 5 yr old would be too rough on him.

You are braver than me! The only cat I have ever dared give a bath to was my old Rascal (who was basically a fainting goat when confronted with something he didn’t like) and Itty-Bitty, when she was about five weeks old (for fleas).

Nic is very, very lucky!

The biscuits mean all that bath business is forgiven.

What a pretty kitty. Making biscuits, sheesh, was he a 28 year old quarter horse in his pasr life?

You rock.

Do I understand you are taking him in permanently as an indoor kitty?

Nic wants everyone to know he is back from the vet and is feeling goooooood on those nice drugs.

Once he was knocked out and the vet could get a proper look in his mouth, the stomatitis was not quite as bad as initially thought. The vet removed 5 teeth. Everything went well and per his MO Nic was very easy to handle and treat.

The only bad news is that he tested positive for FIV :worried: FIV isn’t fatal, but there also isn’t any treatment for it. As long as there is no blood/blood contact to other cats it won’t spread. I need to do some more research on FIV to understand what implications this might have for him.

Since the vet didn’t think he required the full extraction, the bill was lower.

Since you guys are best most incredible, best good samaritans ever you have actually given too much! Nic’s bill was paid with money to spare! I can put the extra towards his food & litter and transportation costs or see if there is a way to process refunds.

Thank you all so much for caring!
