Springer was -without a doubt- my heart horse, and any of you who know his story know why. I also loved the movies “The Horse Whisperer” and “The Black Stallion”. Silly me.
I’ve had a horse that could be described as a “heart horse.” But I refuse to call him that. The phrase makes me gag.
Not even sorry.
Wow, this thread is back from the dead! Apparently it went beyond COTH and made me the scourge of the internet horse community for awhile. ¯_(’’/)_/¯
It’s true. If I google “Heart Horse No Stop” this thread is the first thing that comes up in the results.

lol mine was tongue in cheek  sorry.
I’ve never used the term “heart horse” but I do have that special horse in my life that completes me. It doesn’t make me love my other horses any less
My horse is an excellent match for me and I love him to bits. However, I’ve never referred to him as my “heart horse” only because the term feels a bit silly, like a teenage kind of thing.
Out of all the horses I’ve ridden in my life, there are probably two I would call particularly special. My current horse and my first one. The horse I got when I was 15 was the perfect horse for me at the time. He gave me a lot of confidence and taught me more about horses than I ever would have thought possible as a young teenager. As an adult though, he would not have been the best match. I have different priorities and goals now, so I wouldn’t necessarily have picked the first one if he were still around. that doesn’t mean he is any less special than my current horse, just different.
What kills me is when professionals talk about their “heart horse.” Ugh. You’re not 12. Grown ups don’t say things like “heart horse”. You can have a horse that’s extra special to you, but for the love of god, don’t use some cutesy little phrase like that. Extra special works just fine. Or even “favorite.”
“Heart Horse”
“Equestrian Journey”
“Forever Home”
“Rainbow Bridge”
“Special Bond”
“Final Gift” . . .
I hate 'em all.

I co-sign this and also hate and my skin crawls everytime I have to read:
DD/DH/DS
just say Daughter, Son and Husband. Stop it with the “Darling” in front - all of the internet, just stop it.
I appreciate my horse, I will own her forever, I would never say Heart horse.

Yes. I don’t know how I forgot that one. Puke-worthy plus.

Well, because it sounds better than “getting rid of” “giving up” or any of those other less-than-positive turns of phrase. For instance, the woman in my neighborhood who bought a mini lop rabbit for her son for easter only to discover he’s violently allergic. So she needed to “re-home” the rabbit. Only asking the same adoption fee she paid! (In case you’re wondering, no, i did not give in to my immediate urge to say, “you’re an idiot.”)
Personally, i have nothing against DD etc; sometimes when steps and in-laws and things are involved, it takes me a few minutes to figure out what it means.
The DD. SO, OP, DH, DS are COTH’isms that get a special pass here - along with words like aghasted, canoeing, etc. There is a whole list of them.
I don’t have a problem with Special Bond, but do have one with other soppy phrases.

I’m going to start referring to my horse as my HH.

It’s Dear, not Darling.

DD, SO, OP, DH, DS, are all common among message boards, not just this one.
This thread and the Great Offense of some… just make me laugh. I’m not even aghasted ( ) by the responses, just find them fun.
I’ve been lucky enough to have a few very special horses in my life but I will stab myself in the eye before I refer to any of them as my heart horse.
