Storing or displaying tack in your house?

Long story short, I board my horse and have a few extra bridles and halters that I don’t want to leave there, because they’re for shows or extras. My house isn’t very large, but it’s just my husband and I, so we do have a guest room and a “storage room”. Does anyone store their bridles at home not in a closet?

I feel like I’ve gone crazy horse lady to think of installing hooks and keeping them on the wall, but I do think they’re nice! Is there a way to do that without it being “tacky”? Or does anyone have any good storage hacks to share? I’ve got a saddle, a number of pads, and some various other junk at home too.

It’s your house, decorate how you want, who cares if someone else thinks it’s “tacky?” (Haha nice pun btw)

I think the bridles on a really nice a pretty bridle rack would be super cool.
I stayed at an Airbnb that had a western saddle on a stand in the living room as decor, so it’s not like it’s never been done. If you have a corner where you’ve considered putting like a little decorative table or plant, do a nice saddle stand and your saddle instead!

I have 3 halters hanging displayed in my house next to pictures of the three horses they are from. Right now they are covered in ribbons from the last few shows. It’s my house and I like it

Your house, your Rules :sunglasses:
My LR “decor” is largely equine.
Along with photos of horses past & present & assorted horsey chotchkes, I had my DH’s close contact saddle displayed on a straight backed chair in my LR, my TB’s bridle wrapped for shipping & hung on a cabinet next to it for years.
I just kept them clean, dusting & then conditioning monthly.
Then, thanks to a tip from a COTHer, had both made into a purse
His dress boots are still on display, along with a couple Champion ribbons & the embroidered patch from an EOY Reserve prize cotton knit cooler.
Caveat:
If you have a cat or dog, they will scratch the seat (cats leave pinholes) of any saddle left uncovered.

I live in Florida. I don’t have a tack room. Anything leather left outside will mold like you wouldn’t believe. My house is my tackroom. I thought of building a shed but I’m thinking of leaving Florida and moving so it doesn’t make sense to build a shed when I will need to build one after I move.

I could have put my tack in the spare bedroom/office but I have a cat who lives in that room as he decided he doesn’t like my other cats. That room should have been my tack room. Oh well.

My tack is in the fireplace room and honestly it doesn’t look bad as it already seems to have a western theme.

I originally had the tack in my bedroom but I’m actually allergic to leather. Once I realized I was allergic, i moved it out. I can handle it, provided it isn’t wet. Skin contact hasn’t been an issue… other people’s tack can be problematic due to oils.

We have Morgan horses so each horse has multiple sets of tack English and Western. Our home is rather large as we had four kids, today two of the bedrooms have become tack rooms, one is show tack and all the support stuff for a show the other is just the surplus tack.

Then there is the trunk in the kitchen that has two sets of harness stored.

On the walls of several rooms are awards, framed coolers with ribbons of some special horses.

I have a gold tack bridle hanger, the kind they sell cheap in saddle stores and a nice western bridle as decoration on a wall that gets many compliments even from non-horse people.
If you make a nice display statement of your tack, not a jumble of stuff, it can pass as decoration just fine.

Back when we were all eventing snd foxhunting our dining room had a saddle and bridle on the backs of all eight dining room chairs, saddle pads were stacked on the table, and boots were lined up against the wall under the windows. Tack was cleaned and boots were polished on the kitchen island, and muddy boots were rinsed in the kitchen sink. Hunt whips and girths hung over the top of the door between dining room snd kitchen.

It wasn’t really meant as a display, but it did make a visual impact on our visitors, who of course never saw the tack and boots in their freshly home from riding states.

My ancient Crosby PDN lives in my living room now on my Home Horse riding simulator.

To me, at least, it is a thing of beauty and I love, love, love looking at it.

It also reminds me that I CAN get in a saddle and “ride” even if the weather is bad. Snow, ice, high winds, wildfire smoke, bitter cold and high temperatures don’t matter as far as riding my Home Horse goes. That makes me happier.

when my kids were young I stopped by one afternoon to check on them since I was doing a service call in the area, saw most out playing with their horses but one horse and kid were missing… found both in the house, they were in the den watching TV in the air conditioning… daughter told me it was too hot outside for Foxie (her horse) they were watching one of those horse movies .

Often before we put up pet barriers the miniature horses would push open the back door since the kids often did not close it all the way, once in they would run up and down the hall

I kept all of my tack in the house except for everyday halters and leads. We used a very small bedroom which became a computer+tack room, and kept ribbons and trophies there as well.

I cleaned my bridles after every ride. I can’t think of any reason not to keep tack in your house (unless you have cats/dogs that would damage it) as long as it’s clean.

A friend of mine who doesn’t ride any more has some tack hung on display in her home. I like it. Not sure what non-horse people think of this, but who cares lol

I just have stuff randomly hanging on coat racks and in closets. The only piece that’s really on display is my gelding’s foal halter.

I keep extra bridles in my office area at home! I love how they look and they stay protected from Florida.

I’ve got 2 sets of harness hanging in my living room. It started out as 1 set, nicely arranged on a rack, with the very lovely bridle artfully arranged. It degenerated to 2 sets heaped on one another. I really do need to clean, condition and rearrange the mess. There’s another bridle hanging on the doorknob to the basement.

There’s another set downstairs in the basement, out of sight. I haven’t shown that pony yet, and it gets nasty if left in the barn. I’ve had discussions that I need to bring harness home for the summer, not the winter.
