Stradivari has since be Euthanized due to complications from his injury suffered at Saratoga. RIP sweet boy.
Such a big bummer. When I talked to one of his owners in September, he was doing really well and they were cautiously optimistic. It was joked that he had someone making daily mint runs because heβd turned into a mint fiend. So very disappointing he never got to live up to the talent he showed.
Oh, very sad news.
I was just thinking about him last week and wondering how he was doing. This is sad news indeed.
Lady E. I can envision something like this working β for the right horse.
It would be like crutches for a person. β 3 legs are actually walking, and the 4th leg is probably making walking motions, which would be good for the muscles in the hip and gaskin.
I cannot see how the horse would graze, but for walking on a flat surface β why not? The horse would not be in s sling β just supported so it does not fall over. And the duration of time would only be 20 - 30 minutes, at most.
My Yorkie just had a FHO and for several weeks walked 3 legged with the 4th leg βwalkingβ but not touching the ground.
Anything is a good idea if it can get the horse into a more natural environment β and getting a horse outside and walking after surgery has got to be beneficial.
Why did the vets poo-poo the idea?
(Maybe you should get an engineer and design one yourself β as you show in the picture, the basic idea is already there.)
Lady E β I am entranced with this idea. I cannot think of why the vets did not like it. Similar to a horse walker or a treadmill you could have it motorized, with the speed controlled by a dial. That way, the horse would/could only walk as fast as is beneficial.
