Strange Request: Writing a Book

I know I can figure this out on my own, but COTH is always my resource for good horse care info, so I figured it’d be a good place to ask this.

I’m writing a novel (a western) and my protagonist is a “horse healer” of sorts (and a con-artist of sorts as well, lol). She’s scanning the town for a horse that will be good to demonstrate her healing skills on to drum up some business. She has nothing with her at the time, just her own two hands (there’s a reason for this I won’t bother y’all with). So, I’m thinking something along the lines of massage or a chiro adjustment technique or myofascial release…something along those lines. I want it to be legit(ish) and for it to be effective enough at helping the horse that people can see the improvement immediately.

Any ideas on what she could do? Also, what would be signs in the horse that it needs her help?

I just thought it’d be interesting to see what ideas COTH could come up with for this. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Look up Masterson method.

Yeah, I was thinking of the Masterson method. I’ve watched a lot of videos on it. I just rewatched one on doing a poll release. I’m thinking that might be what I use. Perhaps a horse that is giving a rider a hard time or sits back at the hitching rail or something.

I just watched basically this Reiki concept but with horses too. That’s definitely the idea.

Thanks for the great link!

Someone who used to work on my horses said she would feel horse’s pain in her own body sometimes. I used to think it was hooey, but one time my mare had a lump on her ribs, and the body worker showed up and showed me where she had a really similar lump amazingly enough. She worked on the horse, and both of the lumps went down. It was fairly crazy. She did Reiki as one of her main modalities.
