Stray cat with mange

I trapped a stray today for a neighbor that looks to have mange or perhaps terrible flea dermatitis. He’s missing hair all along his belly and saddle area. Missed getting him in to the vet today to scan for chip and get an opinion as they close pretty early on Sat.

I have Revolution here. Cat is handleable. Opinions on treating him today?

Yes Revolution today ~ offering him some relief til vet visit .

* Revolution treats mange too Ӣ

Yes, I’m aware Revolution treats mange

I don’t know if there are times it’s counter indicated or if using it removes another treatment option from the table.

Weird. Zuzu deleted her reply?

Any of the vets around to weigh in, or techs? @Ghazzu @Marshfield maybe @Texarkana ?

Cat is doing well, using the box, cleaning up his meals. Little freaked out and curled up in a corner of his crate, but still okay with us when we clean the box and bring him food.

”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹He’s sure missing a lot of his coat, though. Poor buddy. Glad we were able to snag him…not sure he would’ve gotten through winter naked. :frowning:

Selamectin (Revolution) is not approved for the treatment of Notoedres cati, if that is what the cat has, but is often used for that purpose.
If you could get a prompt vet appointment so that some skin scrapings could be done to confirm the diagnosis, it is quite likely that selamectin would be prescribed. (NB–lack of evidence on the skin scraping does not definitively rule out N. cati).

Since it is a likely treatment choice, I wouldn’t expect it to rule out the use of a different treatment.

Revolution is a unique product. Safe to use know even if something else has to be added in

Rockstar. Thank you both, @Ghazzu and @Marshfield!

I’ll get some Revolution on him today. Vet tomorrow for chip scan. I am doubtful he has a person, but would love to find out someone is missing him. ♥️

And, thankfully: looks more a rip roaring case of flea bite dermatitis. Even with the revolution, he had a wholllle lot still crawling around :dead: so the vet added advantage 2. We also dewormed him.

No chip :frowning:

I feel very…itchy right now

Any suggestions on what to use to treat a feral cat with very severe mange, that we can’t handle? I’m thinking a small dose of ivermectin in a blob of ground beef…? But how much? Young adult maybe 8-10 #? (and of course I would monitor to make sure he ate it!)

@JennyN can you trap him and then apply a topical while he’s in the trap?

Here’s an article that covers itchy cat things:

And now I wonder about demodicosis because this cat definitely has that sort of hair loss. Eeeek.
