Streaming the EQ Finals

They have 234 on the start list right now with a 7 AM start.

I think this is the first year I ever remember with more entries in the Maclay than the Medal final.

If you guesstimate it at two minutes a trip plus a few drag breaks, I don’t see how the first round could get done in much less than nine hours.

Then a flat phase. Then a second round over jumps. Then whatever test they might decide to do.

That sounds like a looonnnggg day.

Not sure why everyone had such nightmare experiences with unsubbing from CMH??? Maybe it’s a recent issue???
I unsubscribed twice when I was just watching it for winter circuit. It was pretty seamless.

I enjoy reading your posts in the EQ threads. Keep on!

I think a lot of people misinterpret the CMH subscription options. There is no month to month option as there is with many streaming services in the US. You sign up for a subscription that lasts for a year and then choose to pay for that subscription either all at once (cheaper) or in 12 monthly payments. No matter which option you choose, you get a 30 day free trial. But if you don’t cancel within the 30 days and you chose the 12 monthly payments, then yes, they are going to keep on charging you.

Also perhaps the title of this thread could be changed to 2023 Maclay Finals Streaming (or something similar) and then @Renn_aissance could start one for actual discussion of the competition. I suspect I’m not the only one who gets frustrated when there are so many posts about the stream that add nothing to the discussion of the competition.

I agree and I’d forgotten that I started this thread. :upside_down_face:

Changing the title now.

Take it away @Renn_aissance!

That makes sense! I’d guesstimated it at 7.8 hours with 2 minutes a trip and that seemed too short - but forgot about the drag breaks. Thanks!

Next year it’ll be down to 150 entries, which seems reasonable.

Thanks for the encouragement. I regret to tell you that I was going to do that anyway… hopefully our usual finals-watching squad has cleared their calendars this Sunday and as always waffles at my house for anyone who wants to visit.

I think the first round at Harrisburg went until around 4 o’clock, and they only had about 206 go in the class, although there were a few more on the order.

Plus I think that ring at Harrisburg is smaller than the one in Kentucky. So it will just depend on how they set the course for Sunday.

I’m afraid that the course will have to do a considerable amount of work this weekend, because, with several rounds of flat phase to consider, it would be to the benefit of the schedule if a certain number of riders stopped out at the second fence.

I had a CMH membership years ago and when I wanted to cancel it, I couldn’t figure out how to do it on the website so I googled, “how to cancel CMH membership” and just like that, step by step instructions appeared telling me how to cancel my membership. I followed the instructions and lo and behold my membership was cancelled.

Two years ago I renewed my membership and I have had no problems with it. The amount of content they provide is amazing and I don’t recall having any issues with any livestream I have watched. I guess I’m lucky?

Yes! Even if you pay monthly your contract is for a year and I recall it being pretty obvious when you sign up. When I tried to sign up for a month of Horse & Country TV (that everyone here seems to love) earlier this spring they had the same model, commit to a year’s subscription even if you pay monthly.

Minute by minute schedule has first round of Maclay finishing at 4:45 with flat starting at 5:05. Round 2 starting at 6:15 with possible testing starting at 7:05. Pretty long, hard day for those kids and horses.

The kids at least can go to Starbucks midway, but we can’t give a latte to the horses.

Question: do trainers get to “hold the ring” at Maclay as they do in some H/J shows? (I just remember someone’s tale from Florida of waiting 5 hours because of a trainer hold with an unspecified end time.)

There is an order of go and they stick to it. Barring some extremely legitimate reason like a horse pulling a shoe in the warm up ring, you go in your spot in the order or you don’t go at all.

Oof. I’m always struck by the irony that this class is named for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

There is no competing ring here, so no conflicts possible.

Duh! That makes perfect sense…
