Looking for a more comfortable girth for my horse. I have to girth her up so tight to keep the saddle from moving I think it’s causing her discomfort. If I use the regular Total Saddle Fit girth it gaps because her barrel is so much bigger than her girth area. Would like to hear experiences from those that either use the Stubben girth that has all the elastic bands and/or the technical shoulder relief girth that has the elastic at the belly. Thanks in advance.
I have the total saddle fit girth with the stretch it fits great. It has a seperate sternum piece and elastic on both sides. It seemsto hold my saddle in place. My girl is very sensitive so I like it.
How is your saddle moving? Forward? Back? Sideways?
I have the TSF StretchTec girth for mine as well. It does gape a little bit at the front, but he is comfortable in it. I have the neoprene liner for it as we need all the help we can get to prevent his saddle sliding forward. I found I could do the StretchTec up tighter without pulling the saddle forward than I could the regular TSF girth. Though I still mount up with the girth two holes looser than I want, and then tighten it after some walking around.
As far as the gap goes that super expensive shaped girth boasted that their girth allowed the muscles to slide under the forward edge of the girth more easily as there was less pressure there, and was thus more comfortable for the horse. That implies a gap. Fairfax, that was the name.
I have not.seen the Stubben. Is it offset as well?
My saddle slides forward. This is the Stubben girth

i have a very broad, round, mutton withered KWPN and the stubben girth stopped his saddle moving forward at the canter.
he also seems looser through his back in general in it compared to the fairfax which is similar to the TSF girths.
A tighter girth on a horse with a big barrel and forward girth groove pulls the saddle forward.
Mine has the same issue, though he will dump me if his saddle slides forward. The StretchTec girth has been a huge help. I had a regular TSF girth which was okay provided I left it disturbingly loose. I can actually tighten the StretchTec up enough to be safe, and the neoprene lining provides some additional non slip aid. I also have a saddle with point billets, use a non slip pad, and a crupper. Though I don’t think we actually need the crupper any more, I still use it because his reaction is so extreme when the saddle does slip.
I can only speak to the Stretch Tech. It seems to fit my round barreled TB well and doesn’t gap in front like their other girth.
