The calves on my tall boots have gotten a bit tight. I can get them all the way zipped once I wear them for a while but it’s a struggle and they’re pretty darn tight. I know you can sometimes stretch boots, but with the zipper is that possible? Or, would it just be stretching the elastic that holds the zipper?

You can do the tried and true bathtub method. Warm water, climb in, with the boots on sit there until soaked through. Then wear them until dry. . .
You’ll feel stupid but it works. I seriously gained .5" on my right calf only (How the heck I don’t know). But it worked for me.
I have the same problem, very tight near the top. My friend works in a tack shop. She said to put rubbing alcohol on the leather in that area to stretch out the leather so the zipper stays in tact.
I found a bargain on Ebay, new Tredsteps with zippers, under $100! They were about 3/4" too slim in the calf. I mixed 50/50 water & rubbing alcohol (same mixture as commercial Boot Stretch) in a spray bottle. Spray the insides liberally and zip up slowly over thin breeches or tights. I wore them in the house for about an hour, 3 days in a row. By 3rd day they were noticeably more comfortable. Do not soak in the tub…that can cause over saturation and possible ruin of the finish, dye running, separation of glue in the insole, etc. These days most boots are thinner than the stove pipe boots of yore. I wouldn’t want the calfskin lining to separate from the upper!
