Stubben Biomex and Equisoft Seats- Opinions?

Hi all,

Casually browsing saddles. Eventually I will need a dressage saddle but not ready to take the plunge just yet. I have stubben jump saddle right now for my older, high-withered TB (he is using a 27cm currently, but could probably do with a 28). I was looking on Stubben’s website at their used saddles and saw the Equisoft and Biomex seats. Just curious if people have used either and noticed a difference either in the horses movement/comfort or the rider’s.

My horse has a sensitive back (he needs much more topline as well) and tends to get stiff so I thought maybe the equisoft seat could be good for him?

I also have a bad lower back (though it has improved tremendously in the last month with physical therapy) so considered the biomex as well.

Just curious if anyone has ridden in either of these seats and has an opinion on whether they make a difference! Thanks!

The Biomex is for the rider, not the horse. I had a Stubben w/ Biomex. Men love it. I could take or leave it for short rides. I don’t notice a huge difference in normal rides between my Zaria with the Biomex and the Zaria without, but I will say that hunting or long trail rides, I’d prefer the Biomex because I think it does make a difference after an hour in the tack. If you have a bad back, I would consider the Biomex.

My gelding loves his Zaria but that has more to do with the NT & fit than the Biomex. I use a Thinline underneath all the same to help him.

If your horse has a sensitive back perhaps some exploration into the reason why is warranted. My guy with a sensitive back has kissing spine.

I’ve ridden in both. The seats are for the rider - not necessarily the horse. The biomex really does help alieve lower back pain/ stress. The biomax is a firmer seat. But I personally prefer the luxurious feel of the soft seat. It’s a personal preference so try both if you can.

I have a Stubben Genesis Bioex for dressage and I love it. I do not have a lot of experience with Dressage saddles compared to jumping but I do like it. I have a high withered TB and he seems to do well it in. I am not exactly sure what the saddle size is other than a Medium. Maybe Medium narrow. Though i do use a Wither Relief pad by total saddle fit with shims. As mentioned before, the Biomex is for the rider on the seat.

I have a bad back and the biomex allows me to sit the trot. I can’t walk after in a normal saddle. It is great.

Unfortunately my Genesis Special, which I love, doesn’t fit any of my horses. The Genesis saddles are very wide. Mine is a 31cm and it is too wide for my barrel of a QH. I am going to have to send it off to be sold.

I don’t think it does anything for the horses.
