stubben roxane saddle ?

Look for a new jumping saddle, has anyone have experience with the Stubben Roxane saddle? How do you feel about Stubbens or the Roxane model in particular?

I love my Stubben saddles (Portos for jumping and Juventus for dressage), and my Stubben rep! My saddles are comfortable for both myself and my horse, and have been holding up nicely after 4 and 1 years respectively. The Roxanne is a bit more secure than the Portos, I would recommend for eventing.

I had the Roxane jumping saddle for hunting. It put me in a very correct position, and I felt and was quite secure. Mind you this was ten or more years ago. I ordered mine from Stubben at Rolex, and they built it for me and added two more Ds at the back. The only issue that I had, which Stubben corrected with a restuffing, was that the panels were a little more banana than straight, and my old TB needed straight. When I quit hunting, I sold it to another foxhunter, and he’s loved it as much as I did. Occasionally I call him now that he’s not riding and bug him to let me buy it back. So far he’s refused.

They are quite well built; much sturdier than the Crosby that I had before I switched to Stubben. I had another Stubben–a CS–which I have called “chair seat” because that’s what it put me in. The Roxane didn’t. It’s balance was much better for me.

It was a heckuva lot easier to ride in and much less tiring while hunting for hours at a time.

I trialed a nearly new Roxanne several years ago and while it seemed comfortable, it was a poor fit for my horse. It rolled around, as the tree was too curvy for her back. My saddle fitter also though that the letter of the underpinnings (like the billets) was rather poor quality “coated” leather not vegetable tanned leather like older saddles. Now this was probably in the aftermath of the mad cow cull in Europe, so there might have been some problems with leather quality availability. But it looked like a good enough saddle if it fits your horse. It had the extra padded biomex seat, I think.

I have thought to sell mine, it is too large for me, but it fits our horses so well, I keep using it.
It is an older saddle.

Generally saddles that are too large tend to sit you in a chair seat.
Not the Roxane, that has a definite middle that lets you have a longer leg when desired.

Pelham saddlery generally has some for sale with a 7 day trial, why not try one?
That is where I bought mine, like it so well, even if too large a seat, it is super comfortable.
My horses seem to move more free in front with it.

They are great saddles. They definitely are best for curvy backs-- I have used mine on all of my TBs and it’s worked fairly well. I have competed through Prelim and done some 3’9 jumper shows and First level dressage shows and the occasional little hunter derby in it. I’ve had it probably 12 years (it was very lightly used when I bought it) and ridden at least 2 horses in it most days. It’s definitely showing some wear but should last another ten years hopefully.

I bought one new about 15 years ago and I’ve used it on several horses: it barely looks broken in! But I’m not an over-oiler.

It does put me in a chair seat. I have stops on the stirrup bars to move the stirrups back, and use a riser pad which helps. It’s also not the softest seat to sit on! I could use a cushy seat saver… but I appreciate the quality of the leather it’s made of.

All that said, it fits every horse I’ve had - per my saddle fitter - and that’s enough for me to keep it. Also I’ve quite long thighs, and it’s one of the few saddles that accommodate them without my knee popping over the front of the flaps.

I love Stubbens, personally find them quite comfortable, and they also last forever. At least, the older ones do. I haven’t tried any of the newer ones because there’s no need to replace my 25+ year old Siegfried. The one I had before this was probably 40+ years old and only finally starting to wear out. Although I have been tempted by some of the pretty new models with custom colored piping and trim.

Love Stubbens! I have the Portos, and it’s one of my favorite saddles I’ve ever ridden in. I’ve had it for almost 3 years now, and it still looks great with minimum care (I know I should oil it more often but I’m human!). I find my horse likes it too, it fits him like a glove and looks perfect with a nice sheepskin halfpad.

I loved mine! Sadly around 6 my mare grew withers and her back changed enough that it didn’t fit quite right anymore.

just bought one, will be here on Saturday, I can hardly wait. I already have a Stubben Deland that I like very much.
