Stud books doing remote / video mare and or foal approvals this year?

I see the holsteiner stud book is allowing it for"registered" mares ( i assume holsteiner papered mares?). There is a plus not having to take off work and stress out shipping sometimes several hours, of course not to memtion the primary reason of the covid situation. I assume other stud books are doing this?

i am getting old as inspections which i know folks rightfully take pride in, now seem so stressful to me -from the shipping, loading, taking off work, worrying about leaving early and getting home late…finding help if needed, .I have become a homebody (even before covid) so remote approvals look great to me!

Guess i need to do some research!

The AHS (and I think the Verband as well) is facilitating video inspections as an option this year for registered Hanoverian mares as well as non-Hanoverian mares. Until all the bugs are worked out, mares will only get an overall inspection score and not individual scores for each of the inspection components (e.g., walk, trot, correctness, etc.). The overall score will allow the mares to be appropriately placed in one of the studbooks for breeding purposes. For now, there are no plans for permitting video performance tests.

The AHS is developing an example video of the “do’s” and “don’ts” for this. Some effort will be required to produce a video of sufficient quality for the judges. For example, video footage captured with a phone of a mare cavorting loose in a field will probably not be sufficient.

But even with a modest amount of effort, this should be a welcome option for many breeders.

Here’s the link for AHS info. It applies to Rhineland as well. https://hanoverian.org/news/annual-inspection-tour/mare-inspections-by-video/

I swear I saw that Old NA was letting you send in videos so you could get a score but I haven’t been able to find any info on it on their site and haven’t gotten a response to my email. Haven’t decided if I want to go to PA for an in person inspection but think I would definitely skip it if I got a score. Anybody know?

The Westfalen NA announced they will be allowing mail-in registration for foals and video evaluations/scoring of mares & foals due to cancelling their inspection tour for 2020. https://www.facebook.com/westfalenno…type=3&theater

KWPN-NA has always let you register by mail/online with approved mares and stallions. Its nice because they accept outside warmblood mares and stallions, along with thoroughbred mares. I do miss the inspections and the ratings and feedback as is very helpful for the breeding program.

Old NA/ISR is allowing videos for foals if there is not a site near you. You only get the end result of registered or premium, no scores. Where did you see Holst was allowing videos? I’ve been told I have to take mine up to PA, 2.5 hour drive.

It is at the very bottom of page.

Darn, that’s for mares only. :frowning: I’ve been told foals will still have to go through the normal live approval process.

I attended an AHS inspection/approvals at Hillock Farm, Calera, AL yesterday with my 3 year old Trakehner filly. My friend, who owns the facility, which is truly fabulous, hosts these every year and it’s only about 20 minutes from me, so it was a no-brainer. I took her dam, also a registered TK a few years ago and she made Main Studbook and she also scored in the highest percentile at her TK inspection. This is a really good filly and she was high point in her group. A fly got in her ear as I was leading her around outside before being called to the indoor arena for inspection and she just about lost her mind! Just my luck! The young lady who handled her did amazingly well and she showed pretty well, although tense. When she did the portion turned loose, she was still upset, but settled and got an 8 on her trot and just missed an 8 on her walk, which the inspector said she should have gotten, but being tense, dropped it to a 7. I was pleased. She was really a good girl for the most part and we achieved what we went to get. Congratulations to Pavlova TKR! I bred her dam as well and still have her granddam.
