Stuff you still want because it was cool back in the day.

We have a Hunterdon, exactly like the picture on e-bay, and my kids thought it was w.o.n.d.e.r.f.u.l. Anyody want it? They did have winning eq in it tho.

Back in the day there were a number of Crosby’s and each trainer made their kids sell the one they had an by the flavour of the month. Before Antares, etc.

Pessoa saddle and Tailored Sportsmans (yes, the baby puke green ones) and plaited reins. No one else on this thread is from my ear, apparently!

I love plaited reins! I would still use them if I could find a pair made out of decent leather and not made in a ridiculously long ‘western hunter pleasure’ length.

Pessoa A/Os and puke green TS breeches 4eva!!!

A liver chestnut TB without a stitch of white that wins all the hacks and jumps 3’6 like it’s cake

I still have my ancient Pessoa (with suede knee rolls, lol). It lives at my parents’ so when I’m visiting home, I can ride at my childhood barn in a nice saddle and not the crappy school tack. I loved that saddle, though now, after my CWD and Voltaire and TC, it feels stiff and unpadded…

I coveted custom chaps for ever! Now I appreciate half chaps are SO much more convenient. I still have my puke green TSs hanging in a closet somewhere. And my ancient crosby and beval bridles are still in a storage tote somewhere, and with some oil would be perfectly useable again – they don’t make tack the way they used to.

I dearly miss the Wilsun and Millers brand blankets. I check out ebay all the time, but haven’t ever gotten lucky.

I have an ancient Berney bros saddle…probably 30 yrs old by now…sigh. Such a good cross country saddle. Just use it for occasional trail riding now and jump in a CWD. It was a deep seated saddle with huge knee rolls - which is a great trail saddle. And comfortable too! But the CWD is LOVELY to jump in!

I also wish rust breeches would come back in style. I have hung onto my OLD rust breeches, but the fabric is so thin now from tons of riding, I don’t really want to try riding in them now and have the fabric split. Rust is such a useful color. It hides just about everything you can spill or rub into them.

And to the earlier poster - round leather bridles. WOW I loved those ! Hope they come back too!

A CB Jacket to look cool in while you’re waiting for your class…
Or to show in, in the jumpers, on a cold day.

Here’s a photo from 1991 - how many things date this photo?

-CB jacket
-Hampa boots
-pancake flat saddle
-browband with brass on it
-old fashioned super approved helmet
-number tied to back
-old style jump cups

I was given a pair of old school “puke green” (hate that term–I actually like the color) TS breeches. They are size 34L but in modern sizing they are more like 32 short. I wear 34L and the knee patches barely graze the top of my knee. Dry clean only.

I was going to put them on eBay. You guys are giving me hope they might find a home.

Since I was young, have coveted: custom full chaps w fringe and monogram, custom Dehner’s, wood tack trunk w custom cover, New Cavalry bridle (square raised).

Bought myself a tack trunk and cover a couple years ago, and feel like zippers have replaced the need for custom boots.

Do I still really want custom full chaps?? Hmmm…

For those of you pining the bygone Sigfrieds… my boss gave my sister his “nag saddle” (his words) when he put down his toothless 30+ appy twins this year… He hadn’t ridden them in 15+ years. She was thankful he was giving away his tack but neither of us expected it to be a goldmind…

and then behold, a Sigfried older than both of ages combined possibly, certainly older than her - still yellow under the flap with suede and barely ridden in. Absolutely perfect condition for being 30+ years old…

I still like Baker too… I’m only 25 so not really old enough to want the real vintage stuff but I really, really like the older square raised New Cavalry bridles too…

I still have and use some equipment I bought in the 70s: custom Dehner boots, Stubben Siegfried, Crosby bridle, Baker blanket. I don’t show in any of these anymore, but they are perfectly serviceable and see plenty of use.

For the poster pining after rust breeches: I bought a beautiful pair of Custom Riding Apparel breeches in rust last year. I have shown in them, too. I got mine from Victory Canter though they are not carrying them anymore. Dover has them but they are much more expensive than they were when I bought them. Here they are (oh, yeah–and that’s my old Siegfried, too!):

Aaaarrrggghhh!!!
Are you my arch-nemesis from the early 90’s?
It seemed I was forever in a Jump-Off against this horse!
We split the wins about 50/50.
IIRC he was called Nothing Artifical.

Smith-Worthington carries them. So does Schneider’s. I have two pairs of Bobby’s plaited reins, one raised and one flat. Use them all the time. I actually prefer plaited reins.

I want a few pairs of the Eldonian stainless steel Prussian style offset stirrups. My pair disappeared decades ago.

Anybody remember the “Donnar Horse Protector”? I was interested in it because it was a new English bitless, back in the mid-late 1960’s or early 1970. Alas, I could not afford one before they disappeared.

Old fashioned cavalry twill breeches, in canary, of course!

I would love to see an old-fashioned English Jumping Cavesson bridle, the one with the divided cheek pieces and seperate chin strap, like the one Kathy Kusner used sometimes.

I still have my round bridle…showed in it in a recognized A hunter class about five years ago. Even the Judge commented walking by me afterwards what a nice classy piece of tack it was  She was obviously of my era! (old)
Would love to see a picture of it on your horse. Round snaffle bridles are getting hard to find.

I second the CB jacket. I had an LL Bean one, but it wasn’t the same! And I always wanted a needlepoint belt, but I never had the patience to finish one.

What are you waiting for? Get those babies out and use them!

Wow, nice. Would love to see a picture.

I do still have a soft spot for rust breeches.
