Subscibing to Foxhunters Online?

HELP!
If anyone at Foxhunters Online can give me some tips, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have been trying to send an email to subscribe to the list. Per the instructions, I am told to send an email to: FOL–subscribe@foxhunters.org, but each time I do, I get the mail returned.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

I hope someone chimes in. I subscribed, or at least I think I did, but have no idea how to start a thread or anything. For some reason this website eludes me as far as ease of use!

I might be able to help with that…
According to their site: After replying to the confirmation message, you’re on board. You will soon be receiving email from fellow foxhunters around the world, and you can send mail to them by addressing it to FOL@Foxhunters.Org, or by replying to one of the messages you receive.

Sure would like to join…lol

I got that far, received the email, replied to it, still won’t let me post a new thread.

The process has never failed to work for me (I unsubscribe when going on vacation and resubscribe when I get back, and I get the digest version as opposed to each and every post separately).

Go to

http://foxhunters.org/newsub.html

Read the rules, please, while you are there. There’s some etiquette for FOL just as with hunting:).

The General Instructions section gives the steps for both subscribing and posting. OP- if your emails are bouncing, try putting ‘subscribe’ in the subject line (don’t need anything in the body of the message but the robot may need something in the subject line).

You know you are subscribed if, after replying to the confirmation email, you start receiving FOL posts. In my experience Fridays tend to be quiet days so give it a day or two to double check, and another way to see if you are missing out is to go to the archives section, click on current month and the last page of the current month, and see if messages are being posted that you aren’t receiving.

pc…for sure, if you address a post to FOL@foxhunters.org, it should get there. You DO need to have something in the subject line or it won’t go through. Again- check via the archives to see if your posts are being received.

I got the digest version this afternoon. So I did something right. Now I will have to go back and see if I can post. Will do that after the kiddies are asleep

Ooooo…digest version! Genius! Never thought to do that!

I get the digest version. I like it much better. Too many emails with the regular version. This way I can read the threads once or twice a day.

FOL is a high-volum list, all right. I set up a separate inbox in my Outlook for all emails from FOL. That way I can read through when I have time but don’t have a lot of FOL mail obscuring my work stuff.

What am I doing wrong?? I sent the subscribe request and received a postmaster non-deliverable message!!

I am guessing you cut and pasted that address off the website. That is not a regular hyphen between FOL and subscribe. It is some type of special character.

Just type it by hand into your email program and it should work.

also try all lower case, no caps. I have asked the list-master to change their address in the how-to subscribe instructions twice to no avail.

I think the issues with the instructions have been corrected. I appreciate having them pointed out, and apologize for the delay.

The incorrect dash was an error on my part. I was encoding the addresses to make them less susceptible to harvesting by spambots, and I used the wrong code for the hyphen. Cutting/pasting the address should work now.

Originally, the addresses were clickable mailto links. Unfortunately, that only works if your browser has been properly configured to know which email program to open when you click a mailto link. And with the increasing popularity of webmail (an abomination in my opinion, but that’s irrelevant), clickable email links are even less likely to work without the installation of browser plugins customized for your particular email service. I decided that having a link that looked clickable but frequently wouldn’t work was more confusing than having one that had to be copied.

The mixed-case addresses are syntactically valid according to internet specifications. If your email system refuses to send mail to a mixed-case address, that’s really a problem at your end. However, other than looking pretty, there’s no strong reason for me to display the address that way, and it’s probably easier for me to change it than to convince your ISP that they’re breaking the rules. So the addresses have been changed to lower-case on the web page.

Just wanted to say thank you…I am now subscribed!

Thank you from me, too. I just received my confirmation for subscription.

Prepare to get bombarded !

What is the “digest version”??? I was subscribed for awhile, but the constant emails drove me crazy with my blackberry on my waistwhile riding!! Lots of good folks on it, but although they ask people not to just comment to hear themselves talk, it didn’t work that way when I was on it.
If there were a “condensed” version, or people just said something when it was necessary or informative I’d love to go back!

Well, the digest version is just that, instead of getting each individual post, you get a glom of 20 or so at a time (depending on length of post). Go to link in my previous post and look for the digest subscription instructions…
