People were against you because you came into an upbeat topic about how the industry is improving with unverifiable information and exaggerations to start an argument. On top of that most of you posts require reading three or four times to translate into something resembling English. While it may be true that “there’s no right way to argue” if people have a hard time understanding you your point isn’t really being made and many people like myself won’t even read a post that is poorly written. Why don’t you start another topic about whatever it is that you have a complaint about and this time try to state facts without hyperbole and back up your arguments.

Makes no sense, none at all.
However, I am seeing a coming together of the various rescue/re homing groups as well as concern in the general public that has hope of improving the lot of many racehorses that formerly were thrown away. Getting the tracks involved is a major step, one that will hopefully stop the waste of so many good animals.
Watching Fairweather’s testimony to Congress last week was wonderful. People who can do something about the situation are taking notice and it’s not just PETA that they are hearing.

Here is an ex Mike Gill horse. His knee was broken in 6 places. He gave the horse to Horace Parker who then threw the horse in a field to starve. A few months later Horace Parker sent the horse to an auction where he was purchased by a friend of mine. She donated the horse to the rescue I work with. We xrayed his knee, bandaged him, fed him and then the next day when the xrays came back, we euthanized him.
I took the pictures to the TRPB and made a complaint. Horace Parker lost his trainer’s license for several years. What I did made a difference, and I did it without alienating people on the internet and without making myself look foolish. Its called putting one’s money where their mouth is, or stopping the talk and taking action. All you are doing is making yourself look like an fool and turning off people who could be your possible allies. Its time to grow up or shut up.

I trust Laurie WAY more than I trust you - Laurie has no reason to exaggerate - she doesn’t even like the guy - but YOU seem to have a vendetta against him - which makes you seem a bit, er, not quite right.
How many different tracks does Gill have horses at right now? Didn’t he say a few years ago that he was done with the business?

I understand that claiming races are not so wonderful - but a poster here has made the argument that they are bad because, well, your horse may be claimed while you are laid up in a hospital. Now, my question is this: As an owner, you can choose not to put your horse in a claiming race, right? And, if you do, you understand that your horse may, well, be CLAIMED, correct?

I have no complaints about claiming races. He is making a mockery of Suffolk Downs right now. Laurie, how do we that isn’t a lie? Gill is banned from Delaware Park and he had a major incident at Gulfstream Park too.
He already has multiple horses for the conditions in which he is claiming horses out of. He is claiming cheap horses that will not make money anywhere but Suffolk. What’s he going to do when Suffolk closes for the winter. Feed a bunch of cheap horses that aren’t going to make him money. His win percent is about 15% with close to 100 horses. If he is such a good horsemen or has good horsemen working for him shouldn’t it be higher with the quality of horses he brought from MD?
This Freedom of Speech street you speak of… It was recently converted to a one way road?
As for the facts you skewed (not touching that other thing), I believe Laurierace rather effectively did that a few pages ago. Now you might not like the hard truths put back at you, but as for insulting, making derogatory remarks and just otherwise insisting yours is the only opinion that matter, I do believe you hold the record for that, not Pacificsolo, wings or even myself.
And a lot of people didn’t gave a rat’s ass what tripe you spewed (look it up) until you decided CANTER deserved your ill thought out scorn. Think about it.

This happens to be an internet bulletin board, a forum, as it were. The topic of discussion on this particular thread is (or was) about changes implemented by Suffolk Downs.
Quite a lot of bulletin board members have been reading this topic from the onset when it was started by the original poster. I happened to reply when I had something to say. By your logic only by having posted on this topic earlier does anyone have a right to take you to task for stirring the pot, going off on someone you have a grudge against and writing like a remedial 7th grader.
I did not reply to pick on you but to clarify why you were receiving the response that you got. People who have been members here for a long time and have shown through their participation to be ones whose opinion and experiences hold weight tried to explain it to you. You became more incensed by the minute. You spew vindictiveness rather than rational thought backed up by well presented facts.
Your behavior does not lead one to convert to your cause.
Laurie, how does what happened to Horace Parker have any bearing on what should have happened to Michael Gill? Is he off the hook because he gave the horse to Mr. Parker? This is a not so complicated matter, how was it that the horse broke his knee in six places and no one said anything or did anything to Michael Gill for what he did to this poor creature? Thank you for standing up for him but I just cannot see that calling names and then saying that this is your last dig dignifies this discussion anymore than what HorseLover is doing. Can the personal attacks and defensiveness stop here or is this going to devolve into another anti-slaughter trainwreck. What about the ideas as how to address the egregious wrongs that people like Michael Gill are heaping on the horses, and just to clarify, I am not defending Horace Parker.
Calamber, I think that Laurie’s point has less to do with Gill and more to do with the fact that if a person knows for a fact about issues with an owner or trainer, documents them, and reports them to the appropriate authorities, things can happen to the offending party. Therefore, if someone knows and can prove that an owner or trainer is deliberately mistreating his horses, that person should do less whining and rumor-mongering on the internet and more reporting to those who can make a difference.
Going after CANTER, regardless of who may or may not have made the post, is pretty darn low.

Exactly, thank you. Talk is cheap, typing anonymously to a bunch of strangers from the safety of your home is even cheaper. Getting off your butt and actually doing something about it is what is going to eventually make a difference.

Wings and Pacificsolo have both been a part of this board since 1999 and are both making extremely rational arguements. Furthermore, “misskewed” is not a word.
Claiming that your “sister” posted under your screen name is not exactly helping your credibility.
I believe it came from the same place as your right to speak your mind about Gill, Suffolk Downs, or the same place your [ahem] sister’s right to speak about CANTER. If you employ a little personal responsible in the way you communicate your thoughts and opinions, you will find, in large part, you will get the same respect right back atcha. The reverse holds true as well.
And really, if we had a dime for every time someone came on and said something unwise and then blamed it on [house guests][hackers][other family members] … well, we would be wealthy indeed. You could be telling the truth, but based on history, your statement is viewed with as much suspicion as say, Mike Gill claiming he is in it for the good of the race horse.
