Suggestions for horse that gets very upset at overnight shows

Can you get two stalls and either bring one of his horse friends or have a human friend sleep in the stall next to him?

It’s not at all uncommon for horses to get upset in the morning when people start to arrive (and feed their horses). Mine would be beside himself. I always try to get there first or make arrangements with someone else to feed.

I only go to haul in shows because that’s what I can afford except championships every two year. A year and a half ago my five year old was like this. I brought her, her sister and her mom, who are both good, but she literally spent five days trying to leap out through the 1 1/2 foot space at the top of the stall. She kept rearing and landing in her water bucket, spinning, running. Not a fun show. They live in pasture together. Before championships this year I’m going to pay the extra for stall board a month or so before and have her “practice” moving into a new stall and chilling.

Since she was a baby she’s been going to shows and can stand tied to a trailer all day no problem. Locked in the stall? No. So, practice.

I have dealt with some of this stuff and would suggest ulcergard, mirror, earplugs, and if those didn’t solve it, a companion goat or mini that can share his stall with him.
