Suggestions for Hunter/Jumper lesson barn in CT

Hi all,

I am looking for suggestions on reputable places to take hunter/jumper lessons in the Hartford county area in Connecticut. I am an adult rider that has been on hiatus from anything other than pleasure riding for a while and itching to get back into the saddle. Your help with recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Have you checked equinesite.com? It’s New England based and a lot of people on there could probably point you in the right direction - there is a section just for Connecticut too.

I keep my horse in Tolland, but she’s semi-retired from hunter/jumper life, so I would not recommend my barn for lessons (although it is perfect for us!)

I’ve heard good things about End of Hunt, and Oak Meadow. Folly Farm is pretty close too but I am not sure about their lesson program. Nice facility, though. I also thought Hunter’s Run in Glastonbury had a nice enough setup, and I have heard great things about Seven J’s.

I was not particularly impressed with DeCarli or Glastonbury Hunt Club… just didn’t get the right vibe for me, but maybe they’d work for you. If you share specifically where you’re living, I may be able to help narrow it down a bit.

I’m pretty sure R Folly is mostly, if not all dressage. The owners ride dressage and they host dressage shows frequently. Of course, perhaps R Folly and Folly Farm are different?

I’d suggest Rendevouz in Ashford. Seven J’s in Glastonbury is also great. Have been to both and they seem horse and human friendly. Especially good lesson program at Seven J’s I believe, particularly for what you’re looking for.
