Suggestions for tall & THICK Warmblood stallions....

Yes - I had Democrat on my list - I am just trying to research how good his frozen is. My mare is really fertile - but I still don’t want to mess around with bad semen.
He does tick all my boxes. I also worry a bit about him being 1/4 Thoroughbred - so I have to research his offspring to see how much influence that has on what he produces.

Semen quality for me would be the decider 're Democraat if you feel he ticks your boxes. I don’t think you would risk getting a weedy type. I was so impressed with my gelding, I had a look round for Democraat daughters, and I don’t remember seeing anything light of bone. It was a while ago now though. My Democraat son was very substantial - definitely a more old fashioned type warmblood, of the sort I used to see 20 years ago. LOTS of bone, power & substance, but not clunky or earthbound. Sweet natured and very into people. I also think he would provide more quality than you would typically get with an ID - particularly as regards a nice head (no disrespect to ID - I was brought up riding them, and I would love another pure ID one day).

Large-boned? Grey? Warmblood?

I would totally be checking out some of the Holsteiners from Jumper lines!

Have you thought about Oxford? Love the temperament of the Burggraf line and he is no exception. Excellent frozen too.

What about Cunningham? I don’t know a lot about breeding but he is gorgeous and sounds similar to what you want (maybe minus a high set neck?). He is grey and 17.1H.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I finally made my selection and went in a completely unexpected direction - I will be using a very tall young Andalusian stallion named Barolo. I am excited to for my mare to make me a fun Spanish cross horse who I can hopefully grow old with. This will be my one and only time venturing into the Andalusian breed since I felt completely lost researching stallions, and it is not really where my interest is - from now on I will stick with what I know.

I also completely forgot about Fairbanks who was on my wish list for a long time and somehow slipped my mind. If all goes well I hope to use him on two of my mares next year.

So, unless I get more mares, all my breeding decisions are made until 2018! This is a very relaxing thought for me.

My Donarweiss/Loredo/Paradox mare will be bred to Schwarzenegger this year and Fairbanks next year. My Contucci/World Cup IV/Matcho mare, who is in foal to Bonheur now, will be bred to Dauphin for the next several years provided I like the first couple foals from the cross. I would love to try Viscount on her but not worth the hassle when Dauphin and Schwarzenegger are so close to me and so lovely. It is hard to beat being able to meet the stallions in person and see how sweet and easy going they are.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I am considering the Irish Drafts (and Friesian) as a backup if I can’t find what I want in a WB stallion. But I prefer to stick with WB so that the foal can be registered. If I have to go with a none WB my first pick will likely be a Friesian because of the higher neck set.

I have to confess I would very much like to find everything I want in a grey stallion so I have been googling huge grey warmblood stallions for weeks but I have come up with nothing. A few at 16.2hh that check all my boxes except height. Of course if I will move on to chestnuts, blacks, and bays if I don’t find what I want in grey. Someone else recommended Lissaro who does seem like an excellent choice.

Frozen is a good option for this mare because she has great fertility and easy heats to track.[/QUOTE]

1/2 ID’s are registered as idsh"s

RIDSH means inspected and approved
