Summer barn boots

My much abused Muck boots finally gave up the ghost. They were mid height, Breezy model (supposed to be cooler). Apparently they don’t make them any more, which has sent me on a hunt for summer barn boots. I like my boots to be slip on style, as I am in and out of them several times a day. Waterproof. Not too hot. Good arch support, since I cover a good bit of ground. Tall enough that shavings don’t get in them when I am cleaning stalls, but not too tall.

I am hoping there is something new out there that I may have missed. What do you like to wear in the summer? And, I mean really hot and humid summer, BTW.

I really like my Noble Outfitters Stay Cool Mudd boots. Mine are the tall, but I see the do a mid and a shorter height.

They are so comfortable and really lightweight (I hate clunking around in heavy barn boots). These are also supposedly the “cooler” version, but I have only had mine since December and we have not yet hit the hot, NC summers. No review there yet. It may be one to consider.

I have those, they are not cool, still hot rubber boots and heavy.

They are fine anyway, good support and comfortable.

When not wet, I use hiking boots, waterproof and above the ankle.
Good support and not as heavy or hot, good for mud, just not for puddles over the boot.

I wear Merrell Jungle Mocs (or similar) for barn work year round and like them quite a lot. They might not be tall enough for you? But they’re cool and waterproof (as long as you buy the waterproof ones) and slip ons. They’re supportive. I go with the men’s as I find they to hold up a little better. They run small.

Right now I’m in Duluth wild boar mocs instead, after getting them for something like fifty bucks on sale. Very similar, especially after the addition of some drug store supportive insoles.

I like sloggers. They don’t protect your toes if you get stepped on but you can hose them off if they get muddy.

I use the jungle mocs too, in the summer, and the ariat terrain zip h20 in winter.

In the summer, I live in the LLBean rubber mocs. They might not be what you’re looking for, but I mention them because I also thought I wouldn’t like them but I adore them. They slip on, have good support (I also put in a cheapie insole), are waterproof, and freaking indestructible. I have had the same pair for about 7 years and while there is one spot where the stitching is lose and the heels are wearing, they are in great shape.

I haven’t had good luck finding a lightweight, waterproof boot and I really really really hate hot sweaty feet, so I’ll do whatever I need to do in my riding or muck boots, then switch to the mocs for whatever else.

I have the short Noble Outfitters for summer. I love them. They fit me so much better than the Mucks. I have their winter boots in a tall, and I have the stay cools for spring/fall. I agree that they are not for summer. Dover has had some amazing deals (like 70% off) on the NO’s (hence my ridiculously large collection of them).

Love my Merrell Jungle Mocs in the summer and the drier parts of the winter. I also liked my previous waterproof hiking boots. I just look for something on sale and of a waterproof leather material. Rubber boots make my feet too hot.

I have the ankle high Mucks and love them. They are 3-4 years old. I wear them every day to the barn, including winter because winter in Middle Tennessee is not brutal, only annoying:). I nearly ruined my feet in cheap slogging shoes. The Mucks have a solid sole support:)

I would pass out from heat exhaustion if I wore anything taller. I am often in shorts/t-shirt when DH is in sweats and a hoodie:)

Another vote for SLoggers, found at TS. The insole comes out and the entire shoe can be hosed out. They come in mule and regular closed heel versions. Yes, rubber, so not really “cool”, but even here in FL they are tolerable.

Thanks y’all. There are a few suggestions here that I hadn’t thought of. I need good support in my shoes, but I’m lazy about slipping them on/off. This gives me a good place to start searching.

I just purchased Ovation Mudsters (Zip and Go short boot) from Dover at their tent sale, and I have to say that I love them! Super easy to get on and off and they are very comfortable. My favorite part is that they are fitted around the ankle, so you do not get shavings inside your boot when mucking out stalls. A huge plus! The downside for me is that they can be hot on warmer days.

I have been wearing a pair of ankle-ish height gardening boots from Tractor Supply the past few years. They are much cooler than my Muck boots and do the same job. And they were cheap. Still going strong and I think they are almost 4 years old.

So, for anyone still looking for summer barn boots, I ended up buying Noble Outfitters Muds boots. They are low - 6"- and the top is narrow, similar to a paddock boot. I love them. Very comfortable. The narrow top keeps hay out, too, something I struggled with when I was wearing my mid height boots. Seems I always had hay in my boots.
