Summer riding clothes?

I ride in blue jeans - the stretchy ones made for riding.
I don’t tolerate heat well.
Most of my riding is on the trails. (synthetic dressage saddle if that matters…)
I need something light, that can breathe, has pockets, and is somewhat loose on the legs.
Ideas?
Thanks so much.

I stopped riding in jeans because I overheat so badly. I personally like kerrits tights and FITS breeches. Not great pockets though some types of kerrits have ok ones. I ride with the horse holster.

You can find these on amazon- the grey ones are very stretchy and run a little big. [h=1]HR Farm Women’s Silicone Tights[/h]

Kerrits are great in the Florida heat.

I’ve also been using Kerrits. I will say that there is a bit of a trade off where they are very cool to ride in for hot weather, but are quite thin, so show every nook and cranny. I have yet to find another pair of riding pants that are cool enough on hot hot days though.

Yoga pants. They also do make riding tights with mesh now.

Thanks so much. I’ll research and try one of each. .
What riding tights with mesh? Brand name? Where to buy?

Kerrits ice fil breeches, tights, and sun shirts are the only things that get me through the Arizona summers!

As a Florida trail rider myself, I would suggest another alternative, Full sheepskin cover for your saddle and/or leathers, and bike shorts for yourself. Sheepskin is actually cooling and comfy, and bike shorts allow more air flow on your legs. You will need sunscreen and bug spray, although you would need both in long pants as well

God that sounds so comfy

I use Kerrits IceFil tights exclusively in the hot months. I actually wear them most of the year, to tell the truth. I live in the land of heat and humidity - Coastal South Carolina. You won’t catch me wearing jeans in the hot part of the year. Pretty sure I would burst into flames.

G’mom. I confess I rode in shorts today. I like the idea of a sheepskin saddle cover.
In the past I looked for seat savers for my saddle - but none would fit.
I have a Thorogood synthetic dressage saddle.
Ideas where to look for a SS cover for what seems to be an oddly shaped saddle?
Thanks so much all. Dreading the summer…

You might want to look into ice vests/“phase cooling” vests (ice vests need a freezer to freeze, you can use cold water with ice cubes to freeze the phase cooling vests, if I remember correctly.)

I’m in NC. Hot, humid+++ summers. Kerrits Ice Fill tights, Moxie ventilated half-chaps (no longer made, I think Smith Worthington has ventilated half chaps though), long sleeve FITS mesh shirt, Columbia Omni Freeze Zero neck gaiter (fits under my Trauma Void EQ3 helmet), technical fabric cooling socks–all that for the springtime, early summer.

For deep summer I add my Kool Max ice vest. I actually preferred riding in my FlexiFreeze ice vest but then I discovered that I am allergic to neoprene (red hives, itching.) If I had not been allergic to the neoprene shell I would have been happy to stick to the FlexiFreeze ice vest. The Kool Max one just does not flex to my body as well.

I REALLY wish I could find a way to stay cool wearing my protective vest (Tipperary Eventer Pro (?)), but I do not see any way that it would work, does not the heat of the rider’s body help the protective parts of the vest mold to the rider?

When the heat comes my protective vest comes off and I just ride in my ice vest until mid-late fall.

I admire those of you who keep riding when it’s 85+ and humid. I just can’t. I’ll take dry heat any day, but the humidity just does me in.
I try to ride as early in the day as I can, or I stay in the indoor where it’s cooler, or…I don’t ride.

My summer riding clothes: ribbed knee-patch breeches (Tuff rider), 1/2 chaps, and a light cotton gauze / cotton voile shirt, vented Tipperary helmet.
I haven’t tried the “sun shirts” because I don’t like synthetic fabrics directly on my skin.
The cooling bandanas or neck pieces sound good though.

As soon as I’m done riding, I rinse off my mare (and myself!) and put her away and change into shorts and flip-flops aaaaah.

@grayarabs

JMS makes a full saddle sheepskin cover specifically for the Wintec dressage saddle. It might work for the Thorowgood as well - https://jmsproductsusa-com.3dcartsto…FIT_p_231.html

They will also custom make you a cover if none of their off-the-shelf models fit.

Thanks again, all. Ugh - the thought of putting on pants and going outside in the heat and humidity…
I thought about wearing shorts to the barn - making a quick change to ride in tights - then put shorts back on after.
Pulling up jeans/tights - anything ankle length - over sweaty legs… and it’s only June 1.

Hi grayarabs,

The COOLEST riding pants I’ve ever worn are the Kerrits Flow Rise Performance Riding Tight. I could stand in a breeze of hot and muggy air and my legs felt cooler. The ONLY reason I no longer ride in them is that I slide so much in the saddle. Now I wear them at home when I have to go out in the hot muggy NC summers and they really help keep me cooler.

The next coolest is the Kerrits Ice Fill silicon full seat tights. Not quite as cool as the Flow Rise, but I slip and side less in the saddle!

I do wish that Kerrits could come out with a Flow Rise with the silicon “dots”, then I would be cooler and a LOT happier!

Hi From Phoenix! Kerrits Icefil shirts. Local tack shop states these are “better than shade”, and I agree. Other brands are cuter, but these are the coolest.

This is my year-round uniform. I wear some of the other branded riding shirts in the winter.
I like the idea of the sheepskin cover and shorts!
