Summit Joint Supplement

I want to start my guy (with all the problems) on a top joint supplement. A friend recommends Summit very highly. I checked on past comments, but there have only been 2 threads in the last 5+ years. Are people still using it? His x-rays are showing a slight degradation from a year ago, even though he has been on supplements for most of that time. TIA

Did you see this thread from earlier this month? Experiences with Summit Joint Performance?. The general consensus has been to stay far, far away from Summit.

There’s a strong opposition to it here (and they have their reasons which I respect), but I have used it for one year on my barrel horse and it makes a world of difference in his comfort and movement. Literally the day after each injection, he feels like a new horse. I can tell when he needs his next monthly dose. It’s affordable for me, it works for my horse, each of my vets do not oppose my use of it, and so I keep using it. I don’t think you’ll get many replies like mine on this site, however. I will say, I HATE that they’ve gone to using a pyramid scheme for sales. I do not use a consultant at all. I buy direct. I don’t want to be sold.

If you have read the other threads and are still thinking of using it, I’m not sure how much help asking again will be. It is still produced in such a sketchy manner, there is NO WAY I would use it on a horse in my care. Ever. Those other threads will have expanded on that, I’m sure. I don’t care so much about the marketing, but the actual product is not going in my horses.

Why do you want to inject your horse with an illegal drug with questionable (at best) manufacturing practices and absolutely zero recourse if anything goes wrong?

I agree with the comments about Summit being sketchy and a poor option. It is my understanding (and please, those that know more on this topic correct me if I’m wrong), but there is very little proper research to support most feed-through joint supplements. I used to feed all my horses joint supplements, but upon doing more research, decided that my money was better spent elsewhere. Personally, I think the money is better spent on injectables (systemic such as Adequan, or local joint injections) and perhaps anti-inflammatories as needed (equioxx, etc), but that’s just my two cents.

Summit is not researched, not proven, illegal in most circuits, manufactured in such a way that is NOT safe and the company WILL NOT help you if it hurts your horse.

Stay away. You said it yourself, you want to put him on a “top” joint supplement. Summit shouldn’t even be on the list, let along, anywhere near the top.

It was recommended to me by a lady who has polo ponies. Since I could find little on the internet, I was suspicious — I also do not trust information offered up from COTH, years ago so I came to COTH now because I know I would get straight and current answers, and I wanted the latest input before buying something I had never heard of. Obviously, I DO NOT want to use anything like this. That is why I asked about it. Perhaps my original post was not clear.

Thanks for the help.
