Sundance documentary 'Dark Horse'

The film festival starts next week, and among the documentaries is a U.K. movie entitled ‘Dark Horse.’ My question is, does anyone know who the ‘real’ players are? If it were a U.S. movie, well, I could think it would almost be the California Chrome story. Here is the very brief description:

Dark Horse / United Kingdom (Director: Louise Osmond) — Dark Horse is the inspirational true story of a group of friends from a workingman’s club who decide to take on the elite “sport of kings” and breed themselves a racehorse. World [I]Premiere

Funny Cide?

I agree Funny Cide goes with the bus. In the case of this film, though, it’s about a British horse and British owners so was hoping maybe someone knew about this from across the pond.

Yeah, brain fart! Sorry.

Sorry, I thought you were asking what the US equivalent would be.

It’s about a Welsh National winner named “Dream Alliance”.

Thanks Calamber! Laurierace no worries, it is entirely possible I was not overly articulate or clear having not yet completed my first cup of copy edited to say coffee instead of copy, see, even the coffee didn’t help!

You are welcome Beverley, gorgeous horse and compelling story, horse severed his tendon at Aintree so this is pretty remarkable. Reminds me of the Champion story a bit.

I found a few more snippets from the time of the Welsh National win:

These next two are just before the following year’s Grand National where he was slated to run: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/dream-comes-true-alliance-stallion-1922810

I shouldn’t go overboard, other articles suggest he did not finish the Grand National and after a couple of more years without much success, he was retired. Fun story, though.

Yes it is, I am looking forward to seeing the movie, thanks for posting because I don’t think I would have noticed it otherwise. BTW, the owners are trying again, they have another mare in foal. This is fun.

Saw this today and it’s terrific. And there is a bus.

Where did you se it Beverley?

I saw it at Sundance. I haven’t yet heard how it will be distributed after the Festival.

How exciting. Any other good films?

I saw The Amina Profile this afternoon which was good. Haven’t seen any of the dramatic movies yet. Ones I am screening look good but I am on duty so just do periodic checks.

Saw a preview of “Racing Extinction.” Thought it was passionate and thought provoking.

Yes, this director also did ‘The Cove’ and I screened that one here and had a fascinating chat with the director while we were marking time to the q&a. He isn’t safe in Japan anymore, or wasn’t at the time! My quandary is watching this one Thursday night, or ‘Cartel Land’ which is showing at another theater at the same time. Such is Sundance!

He was really interesting to talk to (I did the NBC Q&A) after speaking with him on Friday. Got an early look at the film before speaking with him. His film is at once beautiful and heart wrenching.
