Sunglasses

What are some good brands of sunglasses that are comfortable to wear with a skull cap helmet and won’t break your face in a fall?

I did a search but every post with a :sunglasses: comes up…

I haven’t fallen off and smacked my face in my goodrs yet, but I wear them to ride frequently and they stay put under my helmet without giving me a headache.

I wear Wiley-X Valor ballistic safety glasses (ANSI Z87.1 2010 and MIL-PRF-32432(GL)).

SafetyGlassesUSA.com is where I get them. Very affordable and tough. I buy lab safety glasses through them.

Look for a place that supplies working guys and buy safety glasses there. Locally we have Industrial Supply, and I get our sunglasses there. They have a wide variety of wrap-around types, mirror lens, even some with a bifocal lens at the bottom, for pretty low prices. All under $8. Many come with an elastic strap to let you take them off and hang on your neck. So I stock up, buy several pairs at a visit. I can stash a pair in numerous locations to have them handy when needed. Mine are quite dark lensed, love the mirrors, so they let my eyes relax despite intense sunlight.

I love my Maui Jim sunglasses. Light, wrap style, and fit nicely under my helmet. And polycarbonate so they won’t shatter if I hit the dirt.

Whatever you buy, I would suggest to make sure they are from the USA because then they will follow the ANSI eyeglasses standards for safety and impact resistance.

I haven’t tried them with a skull cap as I’m a dressage rider, but I’ve really liked my sunglasses from Goodr. They’re lightweight, affordable but not cheap, comfortable, polarized. They were designed by runners so I find they stay on great while riding. I’ve taken a couple tumbles and they didn’t budge.

I wear Oakley ones, made for mountain bikers. They wrap around and fit very snugly. Like seriously, they DO NOT MOVE  They were silly expensive though, I got them as a gift from my mom. If I have to buy another pair I’ll definitely go for bike-specific ones again.

I don’t have them (yet), but I remember a thread here a couple years ago discussing sunglasses that were safe for riding. Tifosi came up a lot. They’re designed for sport (cycling, running, golf, other outdoor sports) and are safe in case of a fall. Shatterproof lenses, hydrophilic padding (grips more when you sweat), lightweight.

The pricing is reasonable as well.

I wear your basic Erin Ray Bans, super light weight and tiny enough for my little head at 6 5/8.

I’ve dropped them, I’ve ruined them, they stay strong lol.

My Tifosi’s are going on 5+ years. I’ve dropped them a LOT and I’ve stretched them a little when worn over a ball cap or knitted hat in winter. But very reasonable wear and tear considering what I do to them. I consider anything under $65 inexpensive.

Love my Rudy Project Rydon Slim with polarized lenses. They’re not cheap but are indestructible! https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-sport-sunglasses/

I also have a tiny 6 5/8 head and these are the ones I’ve been eyeing up, in case you need another pair. They’re for youth/small faces!

And several colour options to choose from. The link I posted is for a Canadian retailer too.

Another vote for goodr here. They’re lightweight and stay on well. I haven’t fallen wearing them while riding…but did have a gnarly tumble during an ultra with them and they didn’t shatter. They stayed on my face but somehow shifted up and bruised my forehead right by my eyebrow but I’ll take it shrugs I’ve found the mirror lenses scratch super easily but the plain brown and black ones don’t.

I’ll second Tifosi. I tried Goodr after hearing the glowing reviews, and HATED them. The Goodr sunglasses had a weird glare/reflection around the edges for me, which I guess means I need something with a bit of a wrap like Tifosi. I’m on my second pair of Tifosi now, they stay put and hold up well to horse life.

I also have Oakley ones that wrap around. I love them as well. I try to find them on clearance at outlet sunglasses shop to find them slightly cheaper.

Great price too! Thank you!
