Super Comfort Stirrup Pads vs Normal White Rubber Pads

I am looking for a better stirrup pad. I currently have the white rubber and my boots slip after walking on the dewey morning grass. I continue to see these black wrap around pads lately.
Anyone have them?

Are the ‘Super Comfort’ stirrup pads really worth the money compared to the $5.00 white rubber pads?

I like mine a lot! I don’t remember them being super expensive but I know I had a discount code for Smartpak. I would recommend them.

Totally worth it! I find that I have more grip, and they even add a bit of shock-absorption to the iron so my knees don’t get nearly as fatigued (and I don’t have knee issues…just something I noticed).

And…they last forever! I got my first pair when they come out…like 5 years ago? and that pair is still going strong.

I’ve got them. They’re definitely better than the white pads that come with some irons, however I’m not sure they’re better than cheesegraters in terms of preventing your foot from slipping. They are durable though. Mine are probably 4 years old now and show no signs of dying.

I’ve got them on my dressage saddle, so not a great test of needing a lot of traction. However, I do find them a great improvement over plain white pads, and they’re much easier on the hands when cleaning tack than cheese graters. I don’t think they’re as secure as my ProJump pads, but plenty of eventers I know use them for XC.

I prefer my herm sprengers, and you can buy those pads separately. Cheese graters have more traction too.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the opinions!

What are the Herm Sprengers? I looked at them on Dover and they look like the rubber white ones. Are they a different material?

I love love love mine. I don’t think I’ve lost a stirrup since using them. They do also give some cushion to the jump. I think I’ve had mine probably 5 years.

I find them to be very secure, very durable and well worth the money. I want to say I paid about $25 for mine, but that was probably 3 years ago. No signs of wearing out.

Love them! Tons of grip and no more knee pain!

I don’t know, but I think they’re a tougher rubber tread. They don’t seem to wear down like the white ones. Plus they don’t get that nastily stained appearance.

IMO, I don’t like them all compared to the regular pads. I went from riding in regular pads to cheese graters and then bought a pair of the Super Comfort Iron Pads when I got my saddle and cut them off of my irons after 2 rides since they made my foot move around on the foot bed.

I prefer cheese graters over anything, much, much better at keeping your foot in place than the super comfort pads.

Cheese graters all the way.

And I had the bendy stirrups, they killed my knees and ankles. I have normal (though black) irons, and cheese graters.

I have been using cheese graters for years and have just recently borrowed a saddle that uses the wrap around pads. I LOVE them! The cheese graters have served me well but I’ve found the wrap around pads do not move as much and I don’t have to ram my foot into the stirrup. Knee pain no more! I will definitely by buying myself a set when I’ve found a saddle that fits my horse

Far superior to regular iron pads - for the longest time, I would only buy Stubben Fillis irons, because they came with black pads, which I think looks much nicer than the icky stained color the white ones become. I then rode in a friend’s saddle, and she had the Super Comfort pads - I loved the additional traction, and they added just a little bit of cushion and width to the footbed, which resulted in a more comfortable ride and less knee pain for me. I promptly bought my own and switched out my regular pads for those.

They are not as grippy as the HS (or HS-like) cheese grater pads I’ve used, but I also found those to be very uncomfortable on the ball of my foot. Riding in another person’s saddle that had Royal Rider stirrups with the cheese grater pads, I have had my foot slip off the stirrup, so I would say those are a less “aggressive” cheese grater than the HS-type.

I do also have Pro Jump Extra stirrup pads, which are the wider version of the Pro Jumps. I think the Pro Jumps might have a bit better grip, but after having ridden in those for a while and then switching back to the Super Comfort pads, I feel that the Super Comfort pads work better to absorb some shock (my knees have ached less after riding when I use the Super Comfort pads than when I use the Pro Jumps).

I don’t care for the Super Comfort pads either. They do have more grip, but the cushion made my foot feel unstable.

I absolutely can’t stand my feet sliding around. I hate the white stirrup pads unless they’re brand new. I prefer cheese grater style, but with regular irons, there just isn’t enough shock absorption and my joints tend to hurt when I ride. In come the super comfort irons. I really like them. They’re a good compromise between regular white fillis pads and cheese graters. They do have very good grip. Between Royal Rider or any other wider track irons, I think these pads are a good middle ground.

Seconding this! Jointed stirrups KILL my ankles-- and I have ankle pain in general when I ride with a regular stirrup. They counter-act what they’re supposed to do.

I agree! Too much cushion for those who need stability for ankles.

Maybe its because mine are older (about 7 years) but my foot doesn’t budge at ALL with these? I prefer them to cheesegraters (what I switched from).

I’m not sure what type of rubber they are made out of, but its more durable then my tires!!! Last forever, don’t lose my stirrups, my knees hurt less, I <3 them.
