Walmart recently had infant mattresses on sale for $35. You can cover any way you want
if your dog likes bolster beds, you can buy a zippered casing from KV vet supply (search for Molly Mutt) and stuff it with things you’re throwing out like packing material from packages and old clothes. Instant bolster. Add to an old saddle pad and voila! el cheap but comfy bed.
This is probably some gross violation of dog saftey practices, but I go to Target and buy a king size pillow and put whatever cute pillowcase over it.
Then again, my dogs weigh 12 and 20 lbs, respectively.
I save the pillows for their shared crates (one in the kitchen, one in the truck.) When they are out of the crate and want to sit somewhere plush they choose the living room chair or the window seat.
I just bought a bolstered bed with fleece for my dogs at a 50% sale at our local fancy petstore. It is wildly popular not only with my dogs but my cats; there is always some beastie on it. At Christmas I bought two dog beds, orthopedic squares from Petsmart, and the dogs like those a lot too. They were very reasonable.
I just use an old fleece blanket, fold it up a bit, and my little terrier pushes it into a little snuggly doggy nest for himself. I’m sure a variation of this could work for most dogs, and it’s pretty inexpensive.
