my potential new trail pony is very flashy; dappled light gold body with four high black sox, black tipped ears and muzzle, long flowing black mane and tail.
so besides basic black, what accent colours would you use on her?
p.s. there is a pic of her on off course.
I think buckskins look fantastic in green! She sounds lovely
Congrats on the pretty girl!! I love burgundy and hunter green. Navy or royal blue looks good too. If you want brighter, maybe neon green or teal. Have fun dressing her!!
neon green!
Make that neon lime green!! Wow!
I have a buckskin and I vote teal!
I couldn’t find your picture on Off Course, but I use a dark brown and teal saddle blanket on my buckskin girl. She is a lighter shade of buckskin. A friend has a darker, more golden buckskin and she uses dark green on him.
sorry, it’s on the around the farm site.–first word is YAY!
i cannot wait to try all of your suggestions out–and of course we’ll see how she sheds out too. i think she’s lighter now and will be a golder colour in spring.
I really, really like classic black and white on a buckskin. But, for colors, a turquoise or other greeny-blue shade (shade adjusted for coat color) can look really sharp.
Congratulations! I love the look of a buckskin.
I have a very flashy buckskin just as you describe (http://www.hphoofcare.com/Monster.html) and we’ve tried a variety of colors. Honestly I think she looks best in plain old black or brown or a combo of black/white or black/brown. She’s flashy enough herself that bright overbearing colors diminish the beauty of her beautiful color
Ditto for my other buckskin (dark sooty http://www.hphoofcare.com/Amadeus.html) The bright flashy colors just detract from the natural beauty of the horse, in my opinion.
With several buckskins around here (one a tobiano Paint, one a buttermilk foundation QH and one a blue eyed golden foundation QH) and a perlino stallion that only sires buckskin…I absolutely love a really great turquoise or a rich teal…highlight with black/white (as in a Navajo blanket) and go for dark, dark oil saddle and bridle with silver/turquoise conchos. Black support boots to keep the black on the legs (in my Paint stallion I go for white boots as his lower legs are white marked…the white almost, not quite, goes as high as the black would so keeping the white lower legs works well for him).
Teals, greens, blues, cream, white, black.
The burgundy tones bring out the red undertones and I don’t think it’s flattering.
I really like black with brass on a buckskin
I vote black as well.
No one said red! I use red and black on my buckskin CDE pony. Looks smashing.
I love red, or more specifically deep rich cranberry. I also like any rich jewel tones, and earth colors on my buckskin. I used to have all black tack but got tired of looking like the ‘bad guy’ after a few years.
One of my favorite color patterns on my buckskin is Baker plaid.
black with bling on it. It would go really well with the black touches that you horse already has the the silver bling will dress it up.

I like chocolate brown.
Really doesn’t make much different as all buckskins I have ever been around are such cocky dudes they will make any thing look flashy
