I wanted to ask you about the microchipping since I’ve never seen it done.
Vet did it?
Any sedation, local anesthetic, or just shoot it in with a syringe?
Where did it go? Neck? Under mane? Is there a standard place?
Can you see it or feel it?
How much $?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Vet did do the microchipping, no sedation, no local anesthetic… it’s just like when your dog or cat has it done. They use a 14g needle just under the mane in the ligament that runs there, about midway up neck is the usual place. you can’t feel it under the skin nor can you see it. Poopikins was a little perterbed at the bigger needle but not overly upset. (he got his other shots that day too plus a coggins so he was about needled out.:)) You can register your chip on horsetrac.com for a onetime lifetime fee of about $18.00 that way if the horse is stolen they will send the alert out with your horse’s description and microchip ID# to the auctions, vets, slaughterhourses etc.
Now my horse has his tattoo and his chip so there will be no doubt who he is :winkgrin:
I also got a nifty little credit card thingy with the chip ID my name an address and a pic of me and my horse on it to help with verification and a sticker to go on his stall showing he is protected by horsetrac
Whew… I hope NO ONE ever has to go through this but I am learning more and more how to protect myself and my horse.

Ha ha! Actually, I jumped her yesterday for the first time (she wasn’t in a regular work schedule when I started leasing her, so we are brining her back slowly). I’ve never seen her jump either but she is really REALLY cute! And she loved it!
