Hmmmmm, Gymnastics Horse or my Horse???

What a Silly Question!!

<<–>>

Guy’s I’m really feeling that I’m going to need that new butt implant for real after todays lesson.:lol::lol:

My guys jump is getting better… and rounder… and he really really really likes his job… What is the bad part you say?? Well as he jumps up and round… while I am with him (not jumping ahead… not getting left behind)… he throws my 120 lb self right up out of the tack… I mean I’m in position… trying to keep heels down and weight down in my legs but I still end up popped out of the tack… I can see air (a lot of it!!) under me. I land ok and don’t just plop on his back but I don’t know what else to do?? Wear a weight belt?? Put weights in my shoes… or on my ankles?? When we jump I am with him I just catch some serious air up there. Maybe if I had more junk in my trunk I would be able to stay more with my saddle. When we are jumping 2’6 it isn’t a problem unless he is really feeling himself or wants to make sure I am paying attention and jumps it like it is over 3’ That’s when I have my hang time. Any other suggestions???

HL catching air over jump…

My suggestion? Do dressage!!!

I finally accepted that with my depth perception, anything beyond crossrails was going to get me and my horse in Serious Trouble. Heck, maybe anything over ground poles.

My current rule of thumb: “Never jump anything you can crawl under.” And since I can sink pretty low…I guess it IS ground poles or nothing!

Is he just getting too close to the jumps and jumping from the short spot? I used to hate those jumps, weight has nothing to do with it, it is momentum from the horse giving a bit of a “lurch” over the fence. If he is taking the short spot for takeoff, maybe set a ground pole ahead of the jump to help place him better for the takeoff.

Ask your trainer about staying closer to the tack on takeoff and “catching up” to the horse over the jump? You would probably have to do a really stretched crest release or auto release.

My $0.02 worth… not that I am any good at jumping though.

Actually he does it some then (the short spot) but it is worse when he takes the long spot I think. He just really goes for the invisible oxer… he loffs oxers. He will see the oxer and I can feel him really lauch himself over the jump. His ears prick up and you can hear him going " OH GOODY A BIG ONE!!" Will try the poles in front of the jump though again… we put them there in front for the trot jumps to keep him from throwing himself over the jump and it works for those but when we’ve tried it before for canter jumps he chooses to jump them all in one jump :eek: He has just a weee bit of scope to him. He does try so very hard and my trainer said he is one of the most honest jumpers she has ever seen. If you point him at it he will go over it one way or the other no matter what spot you give him… so point him at a jump you better mean it because he’s going over… one way or the other.:lol:

And Geek he HATES flat work… he thinks bending is overrated (something trainer is working on with him on her rides) . He goes through the flatwork portion of our lesson grudginly… but as soon as hears the jumps being set ears are up… there is more spring in his step and he follows the trainer with his eyes to see where she is going to have us go. He would be a very unhappy boy if he didn’t get to jump.:lol:

h-l: when I got jumped out of the tack my coach made me do 2 pnt till I thought I was gonna DIE. And then she’d take away my stirrups and we’d do some more.:yes::eek::yes::eek::yes::eek::yes: :frowning:

I hated it.

But it seemed to work.

At one barn I was at years ago, if you didn’t do your course right during a lesson, you would have to do the whole thing without stirrups.:dead:
Fortunately, I was always good at remembering my courses.

Indie: It’s close… the Jolly ball is close… I can see it on my JBPS… Jolly Ball Positioning System… it’s too close to Pat for my comfort… and it appears to be suspended in air… maybe it has a built in cloaking device?? I have to get it before Pat does… I’ll just go over to the other hallway and see if I can close in on it from there…

My sister has to leave for college soon too. Where did the summer go?

 Packing story! I can’t resist a quick divergence. :uhoh:

So we were packing to leave Nanjing back at the end of June. We left most of our everyday belongings there, but I was trying to get all sorts of things back to the US that we were planning to store here for future eventual re-habitation in the US use. Like the 20 Great Wall of China Christmas Ornaments that I bought the day before we left ( and why exactly would any human on the planet require 20 Great Wall of China Christmas Ornaments??? Anyone who can provide reasonable insight into that particular bit of insanity wins … wait for it … a Great Wall of China Christmas Ornament!!).

Anyway, there are four of us, and we are each allowed to bring 2 bags, with a total weight per person of 20kilos. So I got out my handy dandy digital scale (which conveniently weighs in kilos!), eight bags and commenced packing. I managed to get everything we wanted to bring into the 8 gianormous bags, and carefully weighed each bag to insure that no bag went over the 20kilo limit and went to bed a tired, but happy camper. All of our beloved China Tchatkas would arrive in the US with no overweight charges.

Did anybody catch that? I bet DQ is all over it.

I packed 20kilos into EACH bag. Which means we were not only overweight, we were double the weight limit. Luckily, I have borne Mr. RR two lovely children, so he forgives me.

So, MLC, good luck on the move!

So what was your solution? Pay extra? Repack and throw away stuff in the airport? Mail the bags?

    Well…
DH flies so much he is a Platinum Bazillion mile member of his frequent flyer club. So he’s been allowed to sign up 2 guests-DD and me. One of the perks is that we get to check 2 bags for free. (Remember when checking luggage was free?) So that means 3 bags for each of us for a total of 6. You would think that one person could fit most of the stuff they need for college in 6 bags. BUT NO:no: And then DH is going out to visit DD a week after she gets to college so they can go to a Yankee game before Yankee stadium is no more. So he gets to schlep some too.

Anyway, hopefully she can get all her cr@p into that many bags. No riding stuff is getting packed cuz I can’t afford the tuition and having her join the riding team. Now if she was a boy, I suspect we would be going with very little.

And then when I get back to Caleefourneeea (where you only dress for one season), horsie becomes MINE ALL MINE! No sharing. Sharing is way overrated:lol:

:D…Me doing the happy dance. One down and one to go til

RR-I’ve done stuff like that. And I’m still married 21 years later.

    I like that philosophy!

:uhoh: Paid. Which means at the end of the day, I paid something like four bucks a pop for each of those danged Great Wall of China Christmas Ornaments. :uhoh:

It is nice to have a forgiving spouse (who also did not notice the error, by the way, even though we discussed the number of bags and weight limits ad nauseum and he participated in the weighing … total brain fart ).
