Many of you have seen the news about the awful flooding Vermont has experienced this month.
I’m a Vermonter living in the area that was badly damaged by these storms and flooding. I’m also a Board member at Green Mountain Horse Association. While I’m grateful my farm is fine, the GMHA facility sadly suffered extensive damage. The latest storm dumped 5" of rain in three hours, wiping out tens of thousands of dollars of repairs done after the first storm and causing new damage. We’ve had to cancel at least four weekends of summer events, resulting in lost income of $200,000. Sadly, these cancellations have affected all our disciplines: our Summer Hunter Jumper Show, our Annual Dressage Days, our August competitive trail and starter distance rides, and, as of this morning, our marquee Festival of Eventing August Horse Trials (both the FEI and National levels).
I know there are many COTHers from New England and the mid-Atlantic who currently compete here, or have memories of competing at GMHA in the past. If you’re so inclined to share the Eventing Nation article linked above with your networks or consider a tax-deductible donation yourself, it would be greatly appreciated. https://gmhainc.org/annual-fund-support-gmha/. If you’re on FB, you can also share directly from GMHA’s page, where regular updates are being posted.
Thanks for your support during this difficult season, and we can’t wait to welcome people back to the facility soon. We’re still working towards hosting events in the latter half of this year’s calendar, so keep up with us via FB for the latest announcements.
