Suspect mole removed from breast

When worlds collide!

I’ve had a suspect mole on the underside of my breast for a few years now. When it first popped up in 2021, my derm recommended 6 month check ups to see if it was actively growing/changing. It held steady for a few visits and then he cleared me back for annual check ups. One of the reasons was that in his experience, most biopsies from moles on the breast do come up as abnormal due to the breast tissue. I didn’t dig much to any of this and was fine with the approach.

I just had my 2025 check yesterday and while the mole hasn’t changed, his preference was to biopsy it at this point just to see what we’re dealing with. He prepared me for it to come back abnormal, and short of it being malignant, the plan would be to continue monitoring it. Obviously, if it is malignant, they would have to do a bigger surgery.

I guess I am thankful that I have enough on my plate to keep my anxiety busy so Im not really worrying about this until it becomes something to worry about. With that said, curious if any others have had similar experiences. This was my first scrape biopsy with the numbing…it was like getting a tooth filled but on your boob :joy:

Jingles for things to come back boring and benign.

I have a weird random mole that appeared in a similar location. So far my Derm says it is nothing.
Now I am going to wonder.

I’ll update as I find out test results etc. My paternal grandmother is nearly all Irish, and so kindly passed me her complexion. She’s had a lot of stuff scraped off over the years, thankfully nothings come from it for her. She was awful about sun protection when she was younger which is probably more common for her generation. She’s also 90 and has smoked all her life and no cancer from that either, so Im hoping I got those genes too!

Jingles for a good outcome!

I went in to get a troublesome mole removed off my back. I believe it was the dermatologist’s FIRST day on the job, right outta school. The ink was hardly dry on the diploma hanging on the wall of the office. She removed the mole that was bugging me. It was “nothing serious”. She looked me over, and found another spot on my chest that she did not like. She took that one off too. It turned out to be a melanoma (which is bad). But she got it all, and it was small. More was removed by a surgeon at the hospital, and they said “Don’t worry”. I’m not worrying, they got it all. But I go back each year for another thorough inspection.

Last year, she found something else she did not like, on the side of my nose. A rough patch of skin that I’d noticed for several years there. It was a carcenoma, but not bad like the melanoma. I had to go back into the hospital to have a bigger piece cut out, which was nasty (there’s nothing quite like getting needles in the nose). But they got it all, and I’m in good shape. The surgeon who took the bigger piece off the nose did a fantastic job, you can’t hardly even see the scar. She warned me that it might leave a “dip”, but it did not. And I’m no beauty queen anyway, so YES PLEASE DO get rid of it for me!!!

So I go and see this dermatologist every year now. And she looks me over. And she’s awesome, I have confidence in her abilities to recognise what she is seeing. I use sunscreen when haying in the summer, and have never been a “suntanner”. But I am blonde, and fair skinned. And I may not have been careful enough in my youth.
It’s all free of course, as I am fortunate to live in Canada. I love my dermatologist. I think that she may have extended my life. On her first day of work as a doctor.
