New diagnosis on a 11 year old event horse is desmitis of the hind outside suspensory branch along with mild fibrosis. Rest and walking along with shock wave. In 6 weeks we go back for another ultrasound and possible Tenex surgery? I can’t find much on this?
I’m currently dealing with a suspensory desmitis case (proximal, not branch). Tenex was never proposed to me, and after a quick search, I can’t find much about Tenex either! Hopefully someone smarter than me will chime in, but if not, that kind of lack of info in horses (and lack of successful documented outcomes) would cause me to get a second opinion. There are a lot of new ways to treat suspensory issues than we had 20 years ago, so I hope you have someone else (a sports medicine specialist, hopefully) or a university hospital you can take him to for a second opinion.
Thank you for replying! Yes, it seems Tenex is used for humans more than animals at the moment? It sounds promising. Basically cleans up the scar tissue. I’m fairly confident in the vet who wants to do the procedure. He’s had stints at top clinics, peer reviewed journals and now is at a teaching hospital. But…. It still gives me pause. Looking at this type of injury, the odds are not in my favor to return to any type of work, best of luck with your horse! I think proximal desmitis has a better prognosis than branch? At least with the faciotomy surgery now available.
