"Suspicious IP"

The last week or so whenever I try to look at the COTH board, I get a Forbidden message - that I have a suspicious IP. I have to come to the site through a special link to prove I’m not a bot.

This is just coming to the site, not even logging in. My IP has been the same for about 2 years and I never had a problem before.

Just a heads up. It’s not impossible to get on - just an annoying extra step.

We recently implemented an IP-based spam prevention system, so the issue is related to that. I can check with our tech team, as I thought that once a user completed the “I’m not an evil spammer” step for a given IP that put up a red flag, they didn’t have to do it again.

I just checked your account, however, and while you probably have kept the same Internet service provider, your IP address has changed – this post and the last one you made before it, for example, have slightly different IP addresses. So that could the the issue.

I’ll definitely check in with them to verify how the system works, but it might help to know that the reason you’re going through the extra step is so that we’re all saved from the ridiculous amount of spam we’d been getting recently!

Thanks so much and we’re sorry for the hassle ~

My office computer gives me the same message, after I go through it once, I’m good for a few hours, but at Noon I have to do it again. I don’t know if that’s due to a timed process running on my end or yours.

Interesting and thanks!
I guess the isp changes the IP #'s randomly. I just know I’ve been with the same company for a while and it shows up the same on my board …which is basically the same software. Or maybe it’s just showing the registration IP. I have to check that out.

SmartAlex …glad I’m not the only one who’s ‘suspicious’. Us evil posters have to stick together.

I have also had this problem the last week. I get the suspicious IP address about 50% of the time. Though I click the link to say I am not a bot I still get it again later that day or the next day.
