Swelling in Armpit/Chest Area

Any thoughts on what could cause this swelling on my boy? He does have a few scrapes in the chest area on the same side as the swelling which indicate he may have been kicked in the chest area and maybe this is from that ? He has a pasture buddy that he tends to roughhouse with. Otherwise he’s not off, eating well etc

Tick bite?

Was he dewormed recently? Do you live in an area with biting insects this time of year? Could be edema for any number of reasons, but bug bites are probably the most common.

Thanks for the replies.
We’re in central Florida so we have plenty of bugs and although they are not terrible yet , it’s certainly possible. He’s a chestnut with sensitive skin and tends to get hives and irritated by bug bites .
He was dewormed about 2 months ago recently had a negative fecal count result .

Looks like two lumps.

I would assume bug bite reaction.

In my experience, if he was kicked in the chest, gravity would pull the fluid down. I’d just watch it carefully…

Pretty common place for edema to land and hang out.
Could be from the kick or bug bites.

Does your horse react if you lift that front leg up? Or if you push too hard in that area? Years ago I had a TB who had similar swelling in that location; some flinching when leg lifted. The farrier, who happened to be there that day, said likely a muscle tweak/pull in turnout; we gave him some bute and a little down time, he was fine in a couple days.
