Swiss Franc Prize Money at WEF

I noticed that in some of the classes the prize money is in Swiss francs. Is this new this season? Any particular reason?

Are they International-level classes (like CSI with stars or CSIO)? The FEI which runs the international classes is based in Switzerland, so the prize money can be in Swiss Francs.

An example would be today’s Grand Prix:

Class 314 - 140,000 (CHF) Florida Coast Equipment Grand Prix CSI3* 238.2.2
FEI Rule 238.2.2

That’s interesting because the 2023 rules say a minimum of 150000 CHF for a CSI3*

This continues to look so odd when I read the press releases. If you are trying to attract the public to the sport, stating the prize $ in a foreign currency doesn’t seem like the way to go. ?? New FEI rule? I don’t get it.

FEI pays out the money and their bank is in their local swiss francs. It is up to show management to publicize for the local audience. I can see it needing to be listed in official program etc and the exchange rate is fluid day to day . It would be wrong to say $75,000 based on todays exchange rate, when the money, next week when it is won, is only worth $65,000.

I could understand why but is this new this year? I’m trying to figure out if I didn’t notice it before now.

I’ve never noticed it before. I wonder if it’s related to the change in ownership of the horse show.

The thing that seems odd to me was that when I looked at the online prize list, it seemed as if the prize money was only listed that way for the first six or seven shows of the circuit, and after that, it was listed in dollars.

@JumpingSpots: Me too, this is just odd.
